Kidnap – Episode 3-4 – Recap and Review

When last we left our kidnapper and kidnapped, our kidnapped wanted to hire his kidnapper to kidnap him again. And ransom him to his father.

Min draws the line at kidnapping Q twice

And it’s morning again! Min finds Mhen and Q eating pizza that James brought. James who ordered Min to kill Q.

James knew the death photo was fake, but doesn’t seem upset that Q is alive and understands Min couldn’t kill him. That’s nice of him? James thinks Min’s plan to rob Peter to pay Paul and then somehow pay Peter back later is terrible. I agree.

For some unexplained reason, James stood outside Min’s place last night and overheard Q’s ransom suggestion. He thinks this is a great way for Min to get money. Min won’t do it, but James agrees to help with the client who hired them to kill Q.

After he leaves, Q asks if James is the other kidnapper. Min pulls Q into a chokehold and reminds him that someone wants to kill him. Q dares him to kill him. Min lets him go.

It’s night again! Min comforts Q during nightmares again! Then it’s morning again!

Min is asleep in the bathroom with his toothbrush in his mouth. At work, he’s tired and makes mistakes. No one cares when he gets hurt, but everything stops when the lead gets hurt.

James wants Min to take a break. At home, Q does the romantic tending-to-wound thing, even blowing on Min’s injury because of something Mhen said. He again pushes for the kidnapping-ransom strategy to help with finances and promises to tell his dad what’s going on after. Min won’t accept this without knowing why Q wants to do this, so Q says it’s for revenge. That’s not good enough for Min.

Min explores shady and dangerous employment opportunities

Min ends up at Hidden Dragon and meets with Suea and his boss. She puts him in a fight for money that he easily wins, and offers him a job as her bodyguard. Min accepts this terrible offer.

James and Min meet up with the client who wanted Q dead. I thought he’d be related to the Hidden Dragon people but it’s just some guy. With a gun. Who is upset Q isn’t there.

Q shows up and lets the guy point the gun at his head. The man hates Q’s father because his son was arrested but is innocent. Q questions if the man’s son wants him to be a hero. Incidentally, Q doesn’t want his dad to be a hero.

Min is frantic to stop Q but James holds him back. Q stops the man from shooting himself and tells him that if his son is innocent his father will let him go.

Q has been hyperventilating since the gun went off earlier. Min realizes that Q really wants the kidnapping to get his dad off the case. Q threatens to find someone else to kidnap him, then nearly passes out from the panic attack. Min hugs him.

Q gets what he wants, kinda

They write a ransom note demanding cash and that Q’s father stop investigating. It feels silly and Q’s dad crumples it up after he reads it.

Two days later, Q sees news that his dad is still investigating. Also, Q has exchanged hanging out at malls all day for hanging out at Min’s. Live the dream Q. He even goes to Mhen’s medical exams.

According to the subs Thailand calls Min. But it’s his new job. He tells Q about it, and Q promises to care for Mhen while Min is out. Min doesn’t trust Q and calls family friend Jeen over.

But even Jeen cannot save drama characters from rain

Mhen likes Jeen so Q takes him to learn to ride a motorcycle to impress her. It looks like fun until it starts to rain. Min gets angry at them and Mhen gets angry at Min. Then Min and Q fight, with each of them accusing the other of not caring about others.

Later, Mhen collapses. At the hospital, Min isn’t interested in talking to Q. Luckily Mhen only has a drama cold. Min apologizes to Mhen and Jeen for getting angry. Jeen shows him a video of everyone having fun, including Q.

Once home Min avoids Q at first, but Q also has a drama cold.

It’s time for a wipe-down!

Poor neglected Q needs the traditional BL wipe-down more than the average BL lead. After, Min shows his love by letting him wear a beloved sweater that was off-limits earlier. Q cuddles Min in bed and there are more apologies. Min is grateful to Q for making Mhen happy, and says he’s afraid of screwing up Mhen’s life since he’s raising him. Q wishes he had someone like Min there for him. Awww.

Since everyone is sick they have a family movie night. Min knows Q’s panic gets triggered by gunshots, so he covers Q’s ears at the right times. There’s also staring longing.

We cut from this happy moment to 3 years ago, Q waking up and hyperventilating. So he lied about this being a new problem. But now when he wakes up this way, he calms down and cuddles Min.

We also see that his Dad isn’t the worst person in the world. He knows Q is with Min and Mhen and not in danger. Then he gets called about EVIDENCE. Please, not EVIDENCE again.

The brothers and Q have fun acting out some action scenes where Min gets “shot”. Q and Min stare meaningfully and… I guess Mhen is just watching?

What flavor do you like your sad rich guy?

The end of episode 3 got me. We know Q Has Problems, but that shows how dangerously reckless he is and how little care he has for his life. Between that, his longing looks at Mhen and Min, and his need for cuddles, and it’s easy to pity him. But he’s not helpless. He saved Min and James and showed Mhen how to have fun. Q is a complicated mess.

It’s fun to compare and contrast him to Joker (of Jack and Joker) and see the differences. Joker is a criminal but with good intentions and a desire for justice. In comparison, Q isn’t a criminal (as far as we know) but doesn’t care about right or wrong. He even wants his dad to stop going after bad guys. Joker has low self-esteem. Q doesn’t care if he lives or dies. I love seeing how these differences play out with these two different shows. (And I’m also recapping Jack and Joker.)

I’m glad Q’s Dad knows he’s okay but he’s still not a great father. I’m interested to know what Q keeps dreaming about, how it’s connected to Q’s mom, and how it’ll connect to everything going on now. With Min starting to work for the bad guys, I’m especially interested in how that will connect. Will Min end up assisting Q’s Dad? That would be fun.

James is an enigma. He orders Min to kill Q but seems like a nice guy otherwise. I’m curious if we’ll learn more about him or if he’ll only exist to make things better and worse for Q and Min.
