See Your Love – Episode 7-8 – Recap and Review

When last we left our useless rich guy and tall caretaker, a fall kiss increased their awareness of each other.

Like now, when Zi Xiang sticks his face in Shao Peng’s

Once they notice how close they are, they quickly move apart. Shao Peng tells Zi Xiang he has to go out tomorrow. Incidently so does Zi Xiang, to follow Shao Peng. And run into him.  More skinship!

Then Zi Xiang’s neck hurts from looking up at him. Love the height difference.

Zi Xiang feels silly as Shao Peng sprays his neck with pain relief stuff. I guess Shao Peng doesn’t care about being followed because it doesn’t come up. He went out because he’s a consultant on a play, Huang Chun-ming’s “Fish”, where they are using sign language.

Zi Xiang volunteers to help, and they have him climb a ladder and try to reach something. When Shao Peng finds him, gravity throws Zi Xiang into his arms. The universe wants them to be together.

Tall Shao Peng helps, but looking up at him causes Zi Xiang to become enraptured with his Adam’s apple. He touches it, then gets flustered and says it’s an accident. Accidental Adam’s Apple fondling.

They finish their date at night market where people look at the camera sometimes.

On the way home, they acquire a new housemate

Xin Jia runs from the black hoodie guy and climbs into Shao Peng and Zi Xiang’s taxi. Black hoodie guy sees Zi Xiang and recognizes him.

At home, Xin Jia has been bandaged and promises to leave after his wound heals. The cut on his nose? Zi Xiang wants to know how this happened to him and is startled to hear his name come up. Right then Feng Jie gets home.

They tie up Xin Jia, delighted at their luck, and clear up who is who. Xin Jia breaks free and lurches toward Shao Peng, I don’t know why, because he’s deaf? Zi Xiang panics but Shao Peng knows taekwondo and restrains him.

Feng Jie drags Xin Jia upstairs to interrogate him

Even though he already seems to know the gangster Xin Jia works for. He dissuades him from his life of crime and warns him about hurting Zi Xiang. But Xin Jia is loyal to his boss.

Feng Jie is not done upsetting people. He sees Shao Peng and Zi Xiang signing and reminds Zi Xiang that his father is not easy to deal with. Also, fiancé.

Shu He invites herself to dinner. Zi Xiang gets jealous seeing her with Shao Peng and makes her do work. Meanwhile, Xin Jia has diarrhea because he couldn’t refuse milk from Shao Peng. No one has ever taken care of him that way. Shao Peng is such a caretaker.

When Shao Peng comes to his room, Zi Xiang wants to know if he’s close to Shu He. They grew up together, but Zi Xiang wants to know if he likes her.

Right around then, Feng Jie pisses Xin Jia off

He throws water at him and hits an electric outlet, causing the lights to go off. I don’t think that’s how that works?

But Shao Peng is extra disoriented. He writes “What happened?” on Zi Xiang’s hand. Instead of answering, Zi Xiang kisses him. He says he likes him and kisses him again.

This sends Shao Peng back 6 years, to when Shu He drunkenly confessed and nearly kissed him. Later she was waiting for him and got attacked in the street. He couldn’t hear her calling his name but found her. She’s upset he didn’t come faster, hits him, and asks why he can’t hear.

Suddenly Shao Peng is home because work with Zi Xiang is over. Zi Xiang is in a daze without him and Xin Jia cooks for them. Feng Jie wants to know what happened between Zi Xiang and Shao Peng.

We learn that after the lights came on, Shao Peng moved Zi Xiang away from him and went to check on what happened. Zi Xiang does not tell Feng Jie but asks him to find the assassin. Feng Jie realizes Zi Xiang sent Shao Peng away to protect him.

Cue the fiancé

Jessica does not love Zi Xiang but marriage means freedom from her parents. Zi Xiang wants out of their engagement. Jessica wants to get married and he can have other relationships. If the other person likes Zi Xiang, they’ll understand.

Zi Xiang doesn’t know if the other person likes him, but they work hard and endure enough. He’s ashamed of how he’s behaved and feels indulgent.

Jessica pressures Feng Jie to give her information on Shao Peng. She finds him at his new job and must know he’s deaf because she carefully enunciates a “thank you” for taking care of her fiance.

Shao Peng is Not Smiling Now

Zi Xiang waits for him outside his house but Shao Peng angrily walks past. Zi Xiang is confused, if Shao Peng doesn’t like him back, he can reject him. But Shao Peng asks about the fiancé.

He chases Shao Peng to explain, following him home. His mom finds Zi Xiang in the living room being ignored. She’s happy to see her son angry because he usually smiles and hides things. She hasn’t seen him angry in a long time.

This happiness doesn’t last long, because she collapses. Shao Peng doesn’t hear as Zi Xiang frantically calls the ambulance. Once he sees what happened, he panics.

At the hospital, Zi Xiang reports that the doctor says his mom will be fine. Shao Peng wants him to go away. He won’t, and he won’t let Shao Peng physically push him away either. Zi Xiang angrily confronts Shao Peng, asking how he expects to take care of this alone. He thought Shao Peng accepted that he couldn’t hear, but he was pretending he could and that everything is fine.

Zi Xiang signs while yelling at Shao Peng that he can’t hear. And gets punched!

Oh no! Our sweet OTP is fighting!

This is the second time we’ve seen Shao Peng angry with Zi Xiang, the first time was when he quit. This is in contrast with how he never outwardly expressed anger during those insulting interviews, saving it for taekwondo later. Dropping his “I’m fine” facade only around Zi Xiang shows his comfort with him and the strength of his feelings toward him.

I get that it’s a charged moment, but I find humor in someone yelling at someone else about how they can’t hear.

I’m not entirely sure how to read into Shu He’s being attacked. I feel like it’s a bit of a parallel with Shao Peng’s rescue of Zi Xiang. In real life, I would never analyze someone’s reaction to an assault for deeper meaning, but this is fiction so it’s there for a reason. Zi Xiang was immediately grateful for rescue while Shu He’s reaction was that she’d been let down.

It seems like Zi Xiang admires Shao Peng in a way that Shu He doesn’t. Not that I think she pities him, but she offers him jobs he doesn’t want and to pick him up later, both things he doesn’t need.

Shao Peng needs someone he can get angry at.
