College BL Surplus & Secret Relationships – WDIW April 19th, 2025

Welcome to my Saturday blog post where I give thoughts on dramas I’m watching, whether at the beginning, middle, or end. Whatever I want, because I’m petty that way.

This week, I recapped episodes 7-8 of See Your Love. Their height difference becomes a problem when Zi Xian gets a crick in his neck. Don’t worry, the universe wants them together.

I also recapped episodes 7-8 of The Heart Killers. In these episodes, wacky Style and cold Fadel shine, as they end up in a random farmhouse with a random couple having random problems. I love it.

What did I watch this week?

Let’s start with my BL Public Service Announcement:

We Are – We are คือเรารักกัน – (2024)

Fourever You –  เพราะรักนำทาง – (2024)

Perfect 10 Liners – สายรหัสเทวดา – (2025)

If you like your BL to have a ton of episodes, a ton of college students, a ton of couples, and a ton of kissing while acting like friends, you’ve got options.

We Are is the only one I’ve watched entirely and previously reviewed.

The show is 16 episodes and follows two main couples and two side couples, with their arcs taking up the entire series. While some people might find the repetition, slow-burn with kisses boring, I enjoyed the simple pleasure of watching this group of friends divide into couples.

Here’s a link to the trailer.

Fourever You is 17 episodes and covers 2 main couples, with each couple’s arc taking about half the run time.

(It also teases 2 other couples slated to get their own series.) I enjoyed the sizzling, completely toxic chemistry between our latter couple, Johan and North. Johan is rich, temperamental, controlling, and obsessed with North. North isn’t rich and needs to be rescued, controlled, and coddled. North may also be the most uncomplicated romantic lead I’ve ever seen.

Perfect 10 Liners has one of the least toxic relationships ever, and I won’t judge you if that’s your preference.

It’s 24 episodes, with 3 main couples, each having an arc that takes about a third of the show, along with assorted side couples. The standout couple for me was the final couple, Faifa and Wine. Faifa is similar to Fourever You’s North: uncomplicated, cheerful, and funny. But he has better taste in men, gravitating towards Wine, an introvert who thinks Faifa’s the coolest. They’re adorable together.

Between these three shows, there are about 9 couples + side couples, so maybe there’s one you’d like too.

I also watched:

Secret Relationships – 비밀 사이 – 2025

Recently aired Korean soapy BL with 8 episodes.

A sweet puppy of a man falls in love with a man who is a member of a toxic, twisted, non-sexual thruple.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if Let Free the Curse of Taekwondo had a drama baby with When the Phone Rings

Me either, but I think this is what you’d get. But while one of the leads and the secrets made me think of the former, I think the soap opera nonsense of the plot will appeal more to those who like the latter.

Let’s talk about our leads and their two different shows

Seong Hyeon is the adorable puppy with a new job who starts his day by accidentally destroying his new co-worker’s expensive watch. Romcom conflict ensues.

Da-On is the co-worker and an unfortunate focal point for a sociopath and a psychopath without realizing it. Like the lead in Let Free the Curse of Taekwondo, he comes from a sad background that has put him at a real disadvantage in everything. He’s not a victim, but he does need help.

When Seong Hyeon and Da-On are together, we’re in a cute, fluffy romantic workplace comedy. When Da-On is with the other guys, we’re in a dark, dramatic, angst-filled soap. There is a long history of secrets that get slowly revealed over the show’s 8 episodes, which reminds me of When the Phone Rings.

But even poor Seong Hyeon isn’t immune to the soap drama, and is eventually driven to extremes.

This show doesn’t have time to do more than be a fun, over-the-top drama

Because it’s 8 short episodes and mostly action, there’s not a lot of depth to the characters. I wasn’t always sure why people were doing the things they were doing, except that it would create the most conflict in that moment. The entire world consists of our four leads and various choruses of random friends and co-workers who exist to cause problems. There was a lot of yelling in each other’s faces, some blood, and an important work project.

Crazy things would happen, and then our characters would continue their day like it was nothing. What they knew or thought about the nightmare of their lives remained a mystery.

Sometimes I felt like I was watching space aliens interact.

But I kept eagerly pressing play on the next episode

Things got worse at a nice, brisk pace with perfectly timed cliff hangers. I had no choice but to immediately start the next episode to see poor Da-On get through the latest disaster for a moment before the process repeated. He was just helpless and clueless enough that I worried for him, while strong enough to want to see him succeed.

If you’re looking for complicated human emotions, insight into the human condition, or a warm, fuzzy feeling, skip this. If you want an entertaining ride that moves quickly through dramatic highs and lows and isn’t meant to be thought about too hard, this is perfect.

This made me laugh out loud

I binged Secret Relationships and Jun & Jun at the same time and sometimes I would get them mixed up. Fun times!

I’m glad it made you laugh! 🙂 I have not watched Jun & Jun but I can imagine mixing them up added another surreal layer to the BL adventures.
