Pre-Recap Information:

This is a tricky show. Some people will find the characters unlikable. Other people will be annoyed that the plot starts as a revenge plot, but isn’t. And other people will be disappointed that Dai from The Boyfriend is in it for maybe 5 minutes.

But I loved it, so at least a few other people will too.

Our leads are two odd-shaped puzzle pieces that don’t fit well in the world.

One of them, Hiro, after being bullied by his entire high school, transforms himself into a stylish, professional hairstylist. He’s calm, confident, and as self-important as he was even in high school. It doesn’t inspire people to get close to him.

The other, Natsuo, is a smiley, happy-go-lucky guy in goofy T-shirts. He gets along with people, but also gets written off as stupid and gullible. While he’s likable, that doesn’t mean he’s respected, taken seriously, or has real friends.

Back in high school, when Hiro was uncool, Natsuo was one of the many kids who bullied him. Kinda. Meeting again, years later, Natsuo does not recognize Hiro and asks him on a date.

As revenge for the bullying, Hiro decides to date Natsuo, break his heart, and dump him. But while that is part of the story, this is a Japanese domestic BL. They go on dates, help each other grow, and raise plants together. One of them cooks for the other, although not in the usual way.

This is for those of us who like unlikeable people falling for each other. I know you’re out there.
