Love in the Moonlight – Episode 11-12 – Recap and Review – End

When last we left our poor prince and poor musician, Prince Evil Dad ran them off the road.

Inthorn has also been caught and imprisoned

Pin’s Dad tries to get details on the pictures from Inthorn, but Kamsu interrupts.

Pin weeps at being left behind, and Evil Stepmother helps by blaming her for everything. Pin finally gets angry at the right person, telling her all she’s ever done is try to please everyone, and now she’ll do what she wants. That’ll for sure make her happy.

Grandma interrupts before Pin gets slapped, and reassures Pin that “he’ll” come back.

Prince Evil Dad has Saenkaew and the injured Sasin in some storage room. He acts like Saenkaew was going to abandon the family, when Saenkaew’s idea was better. Because really, it’s all about Saenkaew being gay.

Sasin is critical of his parenting skills and gets beaten. Saenkaew tries to protect him, and his father punches him. Then Sasin covers him with his own body and gets kicked over and over again. Remember this later.

Prince Evil Dad is going to shoot Sasin, and Sasin is ready to die, but Saenkaew holds a knife to his neck. When Prince Evil Dad doesn’t lower the gun, he cuts himself. He’ll marry Pin and do everything he’s told to save Sasin’s life.

It’s heartwrenching as they are pulled apart

Saenkaew apologizes to Sasin for not keeping their promise and tells him he loves him.

Back home, Grandma easily accepts that Inthorn is to blame. Upstairs, Pin is nasty to Saenkaew about why he came back. Saenkaew tells her not to worry, Sasin won’t come near her again.

Pin doesn’t ask how Sasin is doing.

Prince Evil Dad beats Inthorn, takes his word that the negatives are already destroyed, and releases him. Duangkamol is sweetly and conveniently waiting for him behind a nearby bush. She has the negatives.

Kalong also wants the pictures, but this leads to nothing. Pin’s Dad finds Inthorn and murders him to take the negatives. Duangkamol watches from a hiding place.

Saenkaew and Pin sign the marriage certificate

And they’re off to Chiang Mai. Prince Evil Dad thinks he’s won.

Pin wants Saenkaew to be excited to do his husbandly duties. He isn’t. Pin blames him for making her feel disgusting. Pin, you are disgusting right now. He apologizes, and she yells about how she wants him to LOVE her already.

Sasin recovers enough to follow them to Chiang Mai, and calls for Saenkaew through the closed gate. He desperately wants them to run away and live their dream. Saenkaew tells him he loves him, and this is the only option that keeps them both alive.

Crying, Saenkaew walks past Pin without looking at her. She’s crying too.

Later, Prince Evil Dad scolds Saenkaew. Saenkaew says he’s lost who he is and does whatever he’s told, congrats, he’s happy for Prince Evil Dad. Go Saenkaew!

Prince Evil Dad whines more at his wife’s photo

Please leave her and your son alone, sir.

Homthip asks Saenkaew if he can’t forget Sasin. Really Homthip? Saenkaew tells her that his memories of Sasin are what keep him alive. At least she hugs him while he cries, and Pin watches.

So now Pin and Sasin are drinking, and Sasin and Saenkaew are staring at the moon. Duangkamol has lost her mind and is looking for Inthorn.

Pin’s Dad finally has the photos and pretends to be sick to get Pin to visit. But she comes with Saenkaew, Evil Prince Dad, and Grandma. Saenkaew is near tears as he remembers the good times with Sasin. But he’s near tears all the time now.

Even though Prince Evil Dad made him come, Pin nastily insinuates that Saenkaew is there to see Sasin. Then she’s upset he doesn’t want to be around her nastiness. After he leaves, she remembers Rachawadee warning her that this would happen.

Time for more drinking at crying!

But now at Club Nocturne. She tells the band member with a crush on her that she longs for the good old days. She’s upset that being horrible hasn’t made Saenkaew love her.

The too-nice bandmate admits he’s loved her for a long time, and tried to get her to notice, but she never did. It’s not her fault. And it’s not Sasin’s fault.

Finally, she asks about Sasin. He’s sick because he’s drinking too much. She brings him some healing soup, and implies that SHE remembers the promise they made to her Mom about taking care of each other. After pretending she’s happy, she’s ready to leave.

Sasin wants to know if she’s there alone. Because screw her, he wants to see Saenkaew.

Pin’s Dad finally lets Pin in on the plan

She’s to use the photos to get a divorce before she transfers the assets back. Then they get to keep the money. She agrees and asks for all the photos and negatives for leverage. Pin’s Dad sees this as her being committed to the plan.

Kalong is still here, and he’s hired Prince Evil Dad to help with some trouble in his newly embiggened country. Saenkaew is appalled that he’s helping the guy who murdered their family members.

Saenkaew is done being told he’s shameful when his father is so shameless. He sobs and beats his hand against the wall.

Later, Pin takes Saenkaew to Sasin’s place and tells him about the photos and negatives, and that they’re inside. He rushes to find them, but the photos aren’t there. Sasin is.

While Sasin and Saenkaew figure out that Pin arranged this all, Pin burns the photos and says she’s “given” Saenkaew back to Sasin. Nope, you haven’t.

Saenkaew is reluctant to stay with Sasin. He wants Sasin safe, and I think he’s used to being miserable. Sasin looks terrible. Perhaps because of this, Saenkaew lets Sasin kiss him while crying.

Grandma sees it, and, oh no, her heart!

Grandma wakes up and immediately wants answers. Everyone desperately apologizes for having their own lives and desires. Saenkaew promises never to see Sasin again. Sasin cries.

But Grandma wants to know why he wouldn’t see Sasin when he loves him. Also, why did he never tell her? This is somewhat fair. Saenkaew is astonished that she doesn’t find him disgusting.

Grandma makes up for the obliviousness by performing the marriage ritual for Sasin and Saenkaew. They let Pin do it, too. Saenkaew still takes all the blame and apologizes for not telling her sooner.

Pin has realized that being in love isn’t about owning someone, but being happy when the person you love is happy. She wants them to remember her as a sister who wants them to be happy. Not someone who tried to separate them and make them feel bad.

Thruple Hug!

Pin’s family is ready to blackmail Prince Evil Dad’s!

Pin doesn’t reveal she burned everything until after they make their threats. Saenkaew defends Pin from her parents, and Evil Prince Dad declares he’s severing ties with Pin’s family.

Without the money, Pin’s parents are screwed. But Pin hasn’t transferred those assets yet, so they just need to kill Saenkaew to get them. Points to Evil Stepmother for having qualms. Extra points to Pin for everhearing everything.

Pin and Grandma work with our guys to plot their escape. Sasin waits at the station while Pin and Saenkaew sneak away. Unfortunately, Pin’s Dad is watching.

He follows and shoots at Saenkaew. Sasin saves the day by knocking the gun away, but doesn’t pick it up, so Pin’s Dad picks it up again.

Pin protects the guys and dares her Dad to shoot her. He seems reluctant, but they wrestle over the gun in a way that will get her shot. Then Sasin kicks the gun away and DOES NOT TAKE IT AGAIN. But they run off.

No worries, Duangkamol is here to take revenge for her husband, stabbing Pin’s Dad to death.

Our guys make it to the train just in time!

Prince Evil Dad finds a “have a great, shame-free life without me” letter from Saenkaew, and rushes to the station. He’s too late, watching as Saenkaew and Sasin leave.

After, Grandma reveals that she knows everything and supports Saenkaew. Prince Evil Dad makes noises about protecting and caring for Saenkaew, and my eyes roll SO HARD. Grandma thinks if the world is going to judge him, they need to stand by his side, accept and understand him.

Prince Evil Dad’s mind is BLOWN.

1 year later, Saenkaew is happily following in Tian’s footsteps, having become a translator. Sasin is a music teacher for the local children.

They’re living the life they fantasized about on that island

At Club Nocturne, Pin tells Rachawadee she’s now truly happy.

Sasin and Saenkaew flirt under the moon. Saenkaew thanks Sasin for dreaming for them, giving him the strength to fight. Sasin gets horny, but we don’t get to see another kiss. Boo.

Prince Evil Dad is sick, but we don’t get to see him die alone and miserable. Boo. Instead, Saenkaew brings Sasin to see the guy who nearly killed him. And apologizes to him. Yuck.

Evil Prince Dad invites them to stay, because he is now Changed For The Better. Whatever.

They take some family portraits outside, and Sasin, Homthip, and Kamsu are invited to join. At least everyone looks happy.

This was a strong show, a few more episodes could have made it stronger

I enjoyed Pin’s nasty turn and hating on her, but it could have been better motivated. I needed more of her and Sasin. If he’d pampered and spoiled her before Saenkaew arrived, that would have deepened their relationship.

I would like to know more about why she tied love to ownership and control. It wouldn’t have been hard to connect that with her horrible father and her mother’s sad fate.

And I’m not sure what made her finally change her mind. It feels like her Dad wanting her to divorce Saenkaew was the final blow, but that makes it more about not getting to “keep” Saenkaew. That’s not great.

Kalong, Inthorn, and Evil Prince Dad’s endings were unsatisfying. Evil Prince Dad needed to suffer so much more. If he’d mourned Inthorn, if Kalong betrayed him, if he’d experienced hurt like what he inflicted on Saenkaew and Sasin, that would have been something.

I’m fine with the end for Pin’s Dad, Evil Stepmother, and Duangkamol. Poor, loyal, kind of evil, Duangkamol. I kind of liked her.

I want more Rachawadee because she was awesome.

As for our main couple, that idyllic time on the island was the dream they fought for and won. I’m torn between wishing I’d seen more of them being happy together, versus the strength of the point being made. All the suffering, hard as it was to watch at times, proved that love and dreams were too strong to be killed.

Prince Evil Dad and Pin appeared to get their way, acted like they “owned” Saenkaew, but never did. His heart belonged to Sasin, and they had no power there.

I don’t want any lovers to experience that kind of suffering, but I appreciate the beauty of the message.
