Cinderella Closet – Episode 5-6 – Recap and Review

When last we left our princess and her fairy godmother, the Prince asked our Princess to be his girlfriend.

She gives an enthusiastic “yoroshiku onegaishimasu”

In this case, it means “yes”.

Meanwhile, Hikaru is still topless and sad. He puts the lipstick away, like he’s putting his FEELINGS away.

Haruka remembers Hikaru asking about Kurotaki kissing her and thinks maybe Kurotaki WILL kiss her. But he doesn’t. The next morning, she babbles at Hikaru over the phone about how mature and respectful Kurotaki is. Hikaru is irritated but supportive.

He agrees to go to a makeup influencer event with her if Kurotaki comes. But at the event, Kurotaki thinks Haruka would probably enjoy it more if it were just her and Hikaru.

Hikaru is annoyed that Kurotaki treats him like he’s no threat, but Kurotaki says he trusts both of them.

So Hikaru kabadons him with his LEG

And demands to know if Kurotaki really likes Haruka. Kurotaki is confused. Hikaru walks off.

Meanwhile, Haruka has her makeup done by the influencer, Mio. When the guys join them, they discover Mio is Kurotaki’s ex from high school.

Backstage, we learn Mio lied to Kurotaki about moving away to break up. Really, she was insecure about her looks and lacked confidence. She remade herself and now helps girls who were like her.

First, Mio thinks Kurotaki is dating Hikaru. Next, she’s appalled when Kurotaki compliments Hikaru in front of his actual girlfriend. Then she’s thrilled Hikaru is a man, because they can date and do a couples channel.

Hikaru declares he already has a crush, which startles Haruka. Mio is impressed by his faithfulness and encouraged to keep pursuing him.

Haruka is quiet and subdued this entire time.

But she gathers her courage to invite Kurotaki to her place

Kurotaki decides she’ll cook fried chicken for him, because woman. Haruka agrees, because insecurity.

Of course, Haruka can’t cook and needs her Fairy Godmother’s help. Hikaru scolds her for panicking because of Mio and trying to rush into intimacy.

Haruka wants to know more about his crush. He wants the person to be happy and not to bother them. Haruka says she’s a little jealous, which she thinks is funny.

Fried chicken naturally leads to talk of what Hikaru would wear while getting married, and Haruka imagines the two of them at the altar. Then wonders why she’s thinking about this.

And her Prince starts the date by asking to use her shower

Mature-and-ready-for-intimacy-Haruka freaks out. While Kurotaki’s in the shower, she sees Mio calling him.

Outside, Hikaru debates texting Haruka when he sees Kurotaki run by. He immediately calls Haruka, who says Kurotaki left because of an emergency. Also, she’s fine. Totally fine.

She’s not. She perks up when the doorbell rings, only to be surprised that it’s Hikaru. Tearfully, she admits that Kurotaki left to help Mio. Hikaru is pissed and offers to help.

They run out to look for Kurotaki, and Haruka sees him and Mio kissing!

They aren’t, Mio is wiping Kurotaki’s shirt

Hikaru angrily confronts Kurotaki FOR Haruka. But Mio has a stalker, and since she’s new to Tokyo, she didn’t have anyone else to call.

Kurotaki takes Mio home. Hikaru walks Haruka home, who pretends to be fine and talks about Mio’s feelings instead of her own.

At her place, Hikaru insists on eating the cold chicken and gets Haruka to smile again.

At work, Kurotaki is apologetic and wants to make it up to Haruka with a 1-month anniversary date.

Also, Mio’s stalker has been caught

She promises not to contact Kurotaki again, but he’s worried because she’s alone in Tokyo. Haruka agrees.

When Haruka steps away, Mio scolds Kurotaki for being so nice to her and everyone else. This makes people insecure. Kurotaki promises not to hurt Haruka. And Haruka overhears the whole thing.

Haruka coincidentally runs into Hikaru’s friend Shu and learns Mio is going to be judging a school show. Haruka remembers that Mio wants to date Hikaru.

Hikaru continues to play Fairy Godmother, helping Haruka pick a dress for her anniversary. She’s distracted, and Hikaru prods her until she mentions Mio being a judge. Hikaru reassures her that Kurotaki likes her. Those two… aren’t related?

At their anniversary dinner, Haruka admits to Kurotaki that she heard him with Mio. She thinks that with Mio, he acts his age and is cuter. She wants to know why he fell for her.

He says that she’s diligent and cute and considerate and kind and always a good girlfriend. Haruka smiles, but it’s not one of her big, bright-eyed smiles.

He takes her to get an anniversary ring, but she doesn’t look happy.

Hikaru is at school when he sees Haruka outside, walking sadly. He rushes to her and asks what happened.

Haruka says she broke up with Kurotaki.

Poor Haruka Really Goes Through It This Episode

The last few episodes were Hikaru’s yearning, but these are about Haruka realizing maybe her fairy tale isn’t a fairy tale.

I don’t think ignoring Mio when she’s alone and being stalked is a good look. But abandoning Haruka wasn’t the right move either.

I think Kurotaki should have taken Haruka with him to see Mio. She probably would have tried to refuse, but he could have insisted. It’s not a perfect solution, but given the tricky situation, it would have been better.

I think it’s interesting that what made Haruka think about kissing was remembering Hikaru bringing it up. She’s too invested in Kurotaki to consciously think of Hikaru romantically, but we got a few hints she might unconsciously be headed that way. She wanted to know about his crush, and got preoccupied with Mio wanting to date him.

Even though I’ve seen this already, I’ve forgotten Haruka’s explanation for breaking up with Kurotaki and am ready to hear it again. Certainly, being told you are nice and dependable is not sexy or romantic.
