When last we left our Pink Bunny and Mysterious Stranger, Sun asked Jay to make him cry. With Sex.
Rather than get back to that, let’s go back 10 years
Mainly, to learn that Jay’s mom maybe didn’t die by suicide. Jay discovered that all the CCTV cameras suspiciously stopped working when she jumped.
Back to sex-bed. Sun figures Jay thinks he’s a fool for not recognizing him from their Pink Bunny Sex Time. Jay thinks he’s naive. That’s kind. Also, he thinks Sun knows deep down that Jay’s someone special to him. Agreed.
Time for special shower sex and then a soak in the tub. Jay put Sun’s name on the audition list for The Memory. Sun says he doesn’t want to audition. Jay figures this means he does.
Jay could kick Bank out and put Sun in the main role, but then they’d be the bad guys.
Later, Sun discovers the trainee who got SA’d by Bank’s sponsor, TWO-O, is in the hospital. Sun suggests TWO-O try revenge.
Jay and Sun have a meal with Bank’s Evil Sponsor
Sun doesn’t say a word the entire time, while Jay and the guy insult each other. Evil Sponsor knows who Jay’s Mom is, and offers to let him leave the company peacefully. Or he’ll hurt Sun.
Also, he confirms that maybe Jay’s Mom’s suicide wasn’t suicide.
After, Jay lets Sun know this is the guy he needs to watch out for. Then, he flies off to America, leaving Sun to wake up alone and confused. At least Jay left Some Guy to watch over him.
Sun gets a call that takes him near where Bank, Evil Sponsor, Kongkiat, and TWO-O are meeting. TWO-O is there to get SA’d by other men, but sneaks away to get video of Evil Sponsor SAing another trainee, and send it to Sun. Unfortunately, Bank catches him.
Evil Sponsor has Bank murder the trainee he just SA’d, I guess to cover his tracks. To replace that guy, Evil Sponsor wants Bank to get him Sun and Sky.
Bank finds Sun nearby and has him beat up
He takes no responsibility for what happened with Sun and his family. He thinks Sun should get revenge on himself, and he’s only putting people around him in danger.
Then he lets Sun go.
Sun checks on Sky and Kajorn, who are okay for the moment. But he isn’t, because guys with bats surround him. Then Some Guy shows up, and he’s very good at fighting.
But then Sun gets a call that Sky has been kidnapped, and will be killed unless he comes alone. So Sun sneaks away from Some Guy to confront MORE guys with bats, holding Sky prisoner.
Sun fights hard, but in the end he gets stabbed. His cell phone has been ringing this entire time, and he tries to answer, but passes out first.
Time for a nice NDE!
A blonde Sun meets his younger brother and apologizes. His brother thinks revenge isn’t making Sun feel better, and asks him to stop chasing him and their mother. He needs to live his life.
Brother and mother wave goodbye while Sun cries.
Sun wakes up in the hospital, with Sky and Kajorn worrying over him. Sun’s former shipping company and loan shark boss also visit him, aww. Loan Shark Boss knows Jay’s Flashy Jacket Uncle and helped rescue him.
Later, Jay visits and he’s Not Happy. He feels Sun was willing to pick death over him. To prove a point about pain, he forces Sun to hold a knife that he uses to cut his own wrist. It’s a bit much, but it works. Jay hugs Sun, and Sun hugs him back while apologizing.
Later, Sun tells Jay’s Flashy Jacket Uncle that Jay needs a therapist. I agree.
Time for a Board Meeting!
Evil Sponsor is there, but Jay isn’t. Kongkiat leads the meeting, suggesting they merge Dream with Evil Sponsor’s company. Also, get rid of Director Arthur.
As everyone votes to fire him, Jay strolls in dramatically.
Sun gets to watch everything via webcam using a laptop Some Guy brought him. Turns out, Some Guy was Jay’s mom’s bodyguard, and blames himself for her death. He’s in good company.
At the meeting, Jay reveals the contract for The Memory requires it to include a certain song. If that song is not included, the original novel author can cancel everything. Jay helped make sure this was included in the contract.
And Jay owns the rights to that song. He’s not letting them have it.
Also, they can’t get rid of him. He has a 10% stake in the company, which combined with his Mom’s stake is 61%. So he owns it. Supposedly, she gave those shares to Kongkiat, but Jay has proof she didn’t.
Evil Sponsor says this isn’t over yet. Jay tells him to be careful of his weak heart.
Later, Sun wakes up with giant Jay in the hospital bed with him
Jay is irritated they can’t have sex because Sun got himself stabbed.
But showing real emotional growth, Sun admits he wants sex with Jay, and pulls him in for a kiss.
Meanwhile, Kongkiat gets shot in the head and dumped by the side of the road. By someone he screwed over in the past? I think?
TWO-O is brought to Evil Sponsor to be SA’d again, but fights back. Evil Sponsor pulls out a taser, but the police show up, and somehow Evil Sponsor takes a taser to the chest. His weak heart does not take it well.
Bank gives Sun his money back, showing no remorse. Sun thinks Bank should be ashamed of what happened, but Bank thinks Sun deserves all the blame.
Sun doesn’t argue and gives Bank a business card now that he’s unemployed.
Bank threatens to take everything from him, including Director Arthur. But Jay is there to make out with Sun and tells Bank to go away.
Sun has noticed that Jay was the one who did the revenging
Jay points out that since Sun’s original plan was to use Director Arthur, his plan worked. Sun doesn’t feel happy and doesn’t want Jay’s help, but he’s already paid for it, so too bad. Jay gives him a hug, and Sun looks a little happier.
6 months later, and it’s time for a new press conference for The Memory. Sky is on stage because he has a part. Sun is not. He auditioned but didn’t get a role. Jay wouldn’t pull strings to get him one either, and Kajorn suggests Jay likes keeping Sun for himself. Cute.
Pakin takes a picture of our platonic throuple and congratulates Sky. Sun also potentially has a part in something else, and Kajorn is thrilled.
TWO-O thanks Sun for giving info to the police, 6 months ago, I guess. As usual, Sun denies he helped. TWO-O is smart enough to be uninterested in revenge, and Sun is still Sun enough to apologize for everything.
Our Throuple goes out at a celebratory dinner again, and people recognize Sky.
Bank is doing AV with Sun’s old Loan Shark Boss. It’s really grim and terrible. Sun doubts Bank will ever become self-aware.
Jay and Sun still flirt on their roof, though they’ve both quit smoking. They’re their weird sweet selves with each other, and Sun initiates another kiss, awww.
I really loved Sun’s character Arc
In my last recap, I wrote about the weaknesses of the plot, and these last two episodes solidified it for me. I won’t repeat it here, but this really isn’t a revenge story.
For me, the heart of this story was Sun slowly allowing himself to feel again. Revenge just gave him a reason to get involved in life again. The real treasure was the friends he met along the way.
Really, he didn’t get any revenge. He just protected people who were already in danger. Bank and Evil Sponsor were hurting people before he arrived at Dream. Whether or not he showed up, they were going to keep hurting people.
So I don’t think Sun deserves much blame for putting people in danger. But I also think part of the theme of the show is taking responsibility.
No, Bank didn’t actually kill Sun’s brother or mother. And no, Sun didn’t hurt anyone in his quest for revenge. But Sun feels a responsibility towards others, too much so most of the time. Bank feels nothing for anyone else.
Even in his last conversation with TWO-O, Sun was still taking more responsibility than he needed, but this feels realistic for his character. At least he’s no longer walling himself off.
Jay was our real Count of Monte Cristo. Unlike Sun’s impulsive, sudden move towards revenge, Jay spent years pulling his together. I liked how non-violent it was, well, until after.
This is a show I might enjoy more on rewatch. Now that I better understand what it’s trying to do, I can focus on and enjoy that message.
Mostly, I loved Jay and Sun together. I’ll take more of actors Minlee and Toptap together on my screen. Luckily, I think we will get that in the future.
