Goddess Bless You from Death – Episode 3-4 – Recap and Review

When last we left the cop and the witness, we had already hit the cohabitation stage.

But our witness Thup is given reason to worry

The paper he’s been drawing on is a letter about Sing being demoted after a suspect’s death. Thup pretends he didn’t see anything, but doesn’t want to visit the next victim’s house with Sing. This may have more to do with ghosts than Sing.

But he goes anyway, and Sing gets protective of Thup when they run into King.

Sey spent the night at Darin’s, and when they leave for work, King is there to complicate their already complicated stituationship. He asks about their relationship, and Darin says they’re no longer together.

At the victim’s home, Sing finds important evidence

It’s a small statue with its head broken off, wrapped in a red cloth, amidst some rotted offerings.

Meanwhile, the ghost of the victim haunts Thup. He tries to escape to the bathroom, but it follows and spits out a red cloth with a statue in it, like what Sing just found. Then this ghost is “killed” dramatically (a bathtub of blood is involved) by a ghost with white eyes and a creepy slit open mouth.

Frantic, Thup calls for Sing as the creepy new ghost strangles him with hair. Sing arrives, and we get a comforting hug as Thup calms down.

Thup explains what he saw, and the bit about the ghost summoning talisman catches Sing’s attention. It was Tukkata Siakaban Samoltat (elephant), an elephant-headed deity.

Thup hopes this proves he isn’t making things up

Although it could also mean he’s involved. But who would think that of sweet Thup?

At the station, Thup explains that Tukkata are used in a ritual to dispel misfortune. All children are born with a guardian spirit, Mae Sue, who people believe either protects the child or makes them sick. One or the other. Some people perform cleansing ceremonies to get the spirit to attach to a clay doll instead of the child.

Thup supposedly went through this as a child. The ritual may not always involve breaking the head off, and it is different in different places. But no one takes the doll home. It’s bad energy.

Thup guesses that someone cursed the homeowner, weakening their life force so spirits could harm them.

The only way to get the doll would be from a shaman or medium. Sing feels this is his only lead, regardless of whether he believes in the magic or not.

King continues his campaign of awfulness

He forces Thup into an “interview” to be very “guilty until proven innocent”. After that, he warns Thup that Sing is the one who frames people.

Sey goes out with friends to meet someone new, and Darin sees a picture on social media. Then Sey shows up to drunkenly crash with him, and after grumbling, Darin sassily takes care of him.

At Sing’s, Thup admits to seeing the letter and what King said. Sing says it’s true, and we flashback to the guy who hung himself. Of course, he’s the witness Sing feels responsible for.

But King was also responsible, and he got a promotion. Sing doesn’t see himself as a good cop, but he’s better than King.

Thup sees Sing as a good cop, even if he was uncertain about him. Sing thinks he just wants protection from ghosts. There’s flirting! Staring! Faces getting close! And a phone call!

Ghost-hunting streamers are being obnoxious at the crime scene

At a gas station on the way, Thup sees the “mom” ghost, as I’m calling her. She vanishes when Sing gets in the car. Thup remembers seeing her in Sing’s office, and thinks she’s trying to warn them.

Sing thinks it shouldn’t scare Thup then.

The streamers harass the spirits until the split-mouth ghost can’t take them anymore and goes after them. The streamers run, but the cops grab them.

While the streamers are scolded, Thup finds another Tukkata at the base of the tree. Then the split-face ghost strangles him. Sing grabs him and calms him down, earning himself a nice big hug.

During the ride back, Thup shows Sing the evidence that he contaminated

Thup thinks the split-mouth ghost is mad that he found it. Most wandering spirits just want merits, but this one feels different. He thinks a dark shaman is controlling her, so she can’t be stopped.

Sing needs to find the shaman.

At home, Thup prays to Thao Wessuwan in Sing’s home for protection, and Sing prays when Thup asks him. The Thao Wessuwan statue is from his mom.

Thup got them matching rings

The Phirot Ring is supposed to keep danger away, and Thup already has his on. He reassures Sing it’s not a couple’s ring, then slides it onto his finger.

Then King let himself into Sing’s to scold him about the streamers and hugging Thup. King can’t believe that Sing believes in ghosts. Sing still doesn’t, but he’ll protect Thup. King threatens Sing with getting transferred before finally leaving.

Thup wants to know about Sing’s spare key that King casually used. Then they establish that Sing is single, which is good, because they have an accidental nose-kiss in the car.

Sing says not to worry, he wouldn’t get involved with someone obsessed with the supernatural. You already are, dude?

Neither the streamers nor King are helpful

Thankfully, Sing noticed two of the victims had prayer books from Santi Tham religious center. Sing and Thup go there to ask about the Mau Sue ritual. A mysterious older man knows what they’re talking about, but says they don’t perform it.

That seems to be the entire conversation, but an out-of-place flashback shows the mysterious man giving a crucial clue. Based on that, they realize each victim was born on a different day of the week. Each day corresponds to a different animal head on the statues.

So every victim should have a doll in their home. If they find that, it confirms they’re on the right track.

Thup and I have had enough of King

When King fusses over Sing not doing what he wants, Thup heads home, and Sing loudly tells him where to find the spare key. King says that Sing looks at Thup the way he used to look at him. He’ll do whatever it takes to prove he’s changed and get Sing back. Yuck.

Sey wants advice from Sing on moving on from Darin. Sing thinks Sey is too worried to move on. Sey thinks Sing should move on from King and not get stuck in a loop like him. Agreed.

Sing and King interview the man convicted of the 2015 Phang Nga case. He claims he’s been falsely imprisoned, but he saw the person setting up the scene. And he knew one of the victims. But he knows nothing about the statues.

Darin sees the split-mouth ghost on one of the autopsy tables and freaks out. He clutches at Sey, but doesn’t tell him what happens.

Thup gives Sing a goldfish roommate, and Sing calls with a clue

The Phang Nga case happened around Sat Duan Sip, which is a southern ritual honoring ancestors.

Sey’s potential new guy arrives with food, and Darin makes things awkward. Sey doesn’t like Darin treating him like he owns him.

While cleaning/snooping, Thup finds a box of pictures of Sing and King together. And then the statue in Sings’ house falls and breaks. This means something.

Darin gets the DNA results back for a hair on the statue. We don’t see it, but it’s Thup’s, right? Then, Darin gets haunted as he leaves, with a creepy call and a corpse hand grabbing his when he drops his phone. He finally makes it to his car, but the split-mouth ghost messes with the doors before revealing herself.

Darin screams and runs, getting hit by a car.

Next, the split-mouth ghost tries to take out Sing with some conveniently placed scaffolding, but Thup is there to take a blow to the head instead. The ghost laughs.

If the murderer is Sey’s new guy, I’ll be disappointed

I hate the moral lesson that you should stick with your ex rather than risk being with a serial killer. The new guy looks too young, but…

Really, new guy should run away from Sey and Darin’s mess. Especially with Darin getting hurt. I’m not sure how Sey will react, but I’m sure he’ll have feels. I like these two actors, but seeing them in a situationship again isn’t doing it for me. It’s like Pitbabe, but the opposite actor gets to be the one trying to move on.

We’ll see where it goes from here.

It’s hard to imagine Sing and King together because it’s hard to imagine King being someone you can stand for more than 5 minutes. He’s awful and thinks somehow that’ll win Sing back. But does he want Sing back, or is he doing this for whoever is in power and pulling all the strings?

I’m a bad person who likes seeing our poor baby Thup tortured by ghosts. And I like seeing Sing comfort him.

Despite that, I’m surprised Sing isn’t more suspicious, given everything Thup knows that relates to the case. For now, I’ll go with him being super sensitive after being responsible for an innocent person hanging himself. Innocent until proven guilty is important.

Plus, I suspect we still have more to learn about Sing, his past, that statue, and his mother.

Like the last supernatural Thai show I watched, there is a lot of folklore/mythology here, and I’m loving it.
