Pre-Recap Information:
This show was not on my radar until it started airing, but the first episode hooked me. Is it because I’m following Lee (Dean/Jade) around? Or I need more shows about people who can see ghosts?
I think it’s a deeply nostalgic part of me that grew up on buddy cop movies and loves a good cop/witness romantic combo. The weird thing is, I can’t name a single romantic title with this set-up that I enjoyed. Probably, the true blame lies somewhere in all those Silhouette Intimate Moments I read at an impressionable age.
Anyway, about the show.
We’ve got our main Pit Babe duo in similar-but-different roles. Babe is now Sing, a good cop in a bad system, determined to do the right thing despite the corruption around him. His Babe/Charlie is now Thup, a kid with a tragic and mysterious past who can see ghosts and be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Sing is stern and harsh. Thup is a puppy needing protection. Yes, more please.
As of episode 2, the case is delightfully creepy in a way that reminds me slightly of True Detective (though they haven’t copied the True Detective opening like so many other shows). While I’ve been hurt many times by promising plots falling apart around the midway point, for now, I have hope that this’ll go somewhere interesting. And hopefully dark and creepy.
Side Note: Those of you who didn’t care for Pooh’s acting in Pit Babe can probably nope out. As of episode 2, it’s pretty much the same. I don’t care, and find his mildly inappropriate expressions charming and fitting for the off-beat Thup.
