Love in the Moonlight – Episode 7-8 – Recap and Review

When last we left our poor prince and poor musician, Sasin was about to kiss Saenkaew in the moonlight.

But Saenkaew pulls away

To ask how Sasin will help him avoid marriage. The new plan is to switch Pin with Rachawadee, who is happy to help and has no expectation of real marriage.

But Sasin didn’t need to chase him to Hua Hin to tell him this. He came because he wanted to see Saenkaew’s face. Flustered Saenkaew is adorbs.

Sasin recites poetry about the sun and moon, and Saenkaew is overwhelmed. And ready for bed. And kind of happy. So is Sasin. I hope it lasts forever!

The next morning, Saenkaew wakes, admires Sasin’s body, and… ALMOST touches him. Sasin wakes, they meet eyes, but Saenkaew is too shy and leaves the cabin.

Meanwhile, everyone realizes that Saenkaew is missing

Grandma is certain it’s Kalong and Inthorn, and she needs to panic about it. To calm her and everyone else, Pin reveals she saw Saenkaew get on the boat with Sasin last night.

Grandma is relieved! Evil Prince Dad is Upset! Pin’s parents are annoyed!

Saenkaew and Sasin fail to flag down any passing boats, and Saenkaew panics about his family. When Sasin tries to calm him down, Saenkaew attacks him for not having any responsibilities. He stomps off, ready to swim home.

Sasin cooks lunch, but Saenkaew still isn’t back. When Sasin sees something in the water, he becomes convinced Saenkaew drowned trying to swim back. Frantically, he goes into the water and rescues some seaweed.

Saenkaew is on the shore, confused. He apologizes for being grumpy. He’d only walked away to rest and improve his attitude.

Sasin gives him a wet front hug, and Saenkaew pushes him away, only to get a wet back hug. He’s never been as afraid as when he thought Saenkaew was drowning.

Sasin, being Sasin, realized his feelings and immediately declares them

Saenkaew, being Saenkaew, says it can’t happen between them. Because of who he is and how he only hurts the people he loves.

Sasin tells him that’s not true. Starrrrrrrring! Then Sasin goes in for the kiss. Saenkaew withdraws, but Sasin pulls him back for another! It’s very sweet, then… hotter…

Woah, now we’re taking off clothes inside. I guess lunch can wait.

We fade to Evil Prince Dad

No show, no! The vile monster wishes Kalong kidnapped his son.

Enough of him, back to our lovers cuddling. Saenkaew has fun being bratty about returning Sasin’s confession. Then, mentioning the future makes them both worry about Pin.

Whatever, they flirt and live their best domestic life on the island. Saenkaew is a different person when not crying. Forget Pin.

That night, our guys lay under the moonlight. Saenkaew tells Sasin about his Mom’s moon rabbit story. Sasin says his name means moon, and Saenkaew’s rabbit, so they are meant to be together.

Sasin promises Saenkaew to do anything it takes to keep them together. They see a boat coming, and Saenkaew looks sad. Sasin offers to stay with him there, but Saenkaew trusts he’ll do everything to keep him together. Hugggging!

But their rescuers are Prince Evil Dad and Kamsu!

The way Saenkaew flinches and backs away from Prince Evil Dad makes me hate him So Much.

Back with the family, our guys apologize.

Away from the rest of the family, Evil Prince Dad demands to know if Saenkaew and Sasin are a couple. He slaps Saenkaew, who pushes back and refuses to answer him before leaving.

Alone, Prince Evil Dad looks at a family picture while I hate him. He cries crocodile tears of self-pity and tries to pass them off as worry for his son.

Back in Bangkok, Sasin stays away from Saenkaew for his safety

But Saenkaew finds him. He only wants to hug and run, but it turns into flirting, teasing, cuddling, and making out on the bed.

Pin worries about everything going on, and Homthip reassures her it’ll be great once she’s married. This doesn’t satisfy Pin, who goes to Sasin’s. No one answers because they were about to have sex, but she hears something fall and lets herself in.

Sasin and Saenkaew have their tops back on and look tense.

Pin wants Sasin to apologize to Prince Evil Dad since they’ll all be family soon. Awkward.

Sasin agrees, probably to get her to go away. And Pin notices his shirt is incorrectly buttoned. Sasin, you need to pay more attention to buttons

Pin gets Evil Prince Dad’s permission to take Saenkaew to Club Nocturne

For another (secret) thruple date. But Saenkaew and Sasin abandon her to meet with Rachawadee, who realizes they are together and is entirely supportive.

Pin tells the cute band guy who likes her about feeling left out. He reassures her that everything is fine. People need to stop telling Pin things are fine.

When Saenkaew and Sasin reappear, no one is happy as Pin and Saenkaew dance.

The next day, Saenkaew goes out with his family for a wedding-related social obligation. After, Sasin finds him and sneaks him away so he can take him meet Rachawadee and get married.

It nearly goes according to plan, and then it all goes wrong

Inthorn and Duangkamol are there, and see Sasin hugging Saenkaew. Kamsu sees Saenkaew drive off with Sasin. And Pin overhears him telling Evil Prince Dad.

Right after Sasin drops Saenkaew off with Rachawadee, Evil Prince Dad arrives and drags him away.

Loving, concerned Evil Prince Dad physically abuses Saenkaew again. But Saenkaew is no longer scared of him, telling him he can kill him, and he won’t change. He will no longer run away and will live his life how he wants.

Pin tells Sasin she’s the one who told Prince Evil Dad where to find Saenkaew, because she overheard that part of the plan earlier. She was upset at being left out, and now she cries and gets a hug. Why, Sasin, why?

Evil Prince Dad tells Kamsu to do something because “he has no choice”

This is what abusers say to make themselves the victim. But when you order that someone gets shot, you’re the bad guy.

So Sasin gets shot. When the family learns that Sasin is injured, Prince Evil Dad stops Saenkaew from leaving to check on him. He reveals that Sasin won’t die, also revealing that he was involved in the shooting.

Prince Evil Dad wants Saenkaew to stop humiliating him, which Saenkaew points out means that he cares more about his pride and image than Saenkaew’s life. Yes. That.

Saenkaew is amazing here, ready to walk into hell to be with Sasin if that’s what it takes. But Evil Prince Dad threatens to have Sasin shot to death. Saenkaew gives up and goes to his room.

Sasin guesses that Evil Prince Dad is behind the shooting

In the hospital, he tells Rachawadee he will not break up with Saenkaew. Being without him would be like death anyway. Wow, Sasin is an on or off switch, and he is ON now.

Kalong thinks Inthorn did it. But Inthorn just happened to be fleeing creditors when the shooting happened and saw Kamsu with the gunman. He knows Evil Prince Dad is involved.

Saenkaew gives Homthip a letter to pass to Sasin, and she realizes they’re together. Thankfully, she only wants Saenkaew to be happy. He tells her that Evil Prince Dad is the one who shot Sasin. She’s shocked. Why is she shocked?

At the hospital, Pin tells Sasin that she wants him to get better and play at her wedding. Ugh. As Grandma and Pin leave, Homthip slips Sasin the letter.

Sasin flashback reads it, and we see Saenkaew crying onto the paper as he calls Sasin “teerak” (my love). He tells Sasin that his Dad forbids him from seeing him, but can’t forbid him from loving him.

If Sasin is feeling tortured and alone, know that Saenkaew is too, and he won’t give up. He won’t let others force him. And trust him, as he has always trusted Sasin. They’ll be back together.

He signs it “Your Saenkaew,” oh my heart.

Oh, Sasin’s heart too! He cries and holds the letter.

Then the worst servant ever leaves trash from Saenkaew’s room on the ground for Pin’s father to see. It’s the opening of the letter Saenkaew ruined by crying on, which says, “My Sasin.”

That was probably all the happiness we’ll get for a while, huh?

I could have used some more time on the island with them. More build-up would have been nice too, but that’s not Sasin’s way.

Pin lost my sympathy here. Yes, being left out sucks. And being reassured everything is fine when you know it isn’t. But revealing the secret plans of the two people you love most in this world because you are mad at them is childish.

It’s like she destroyed a toy that wasn’t even hers, rather than let anyone else play with it when she’s not there.

Maybe I could understand it if she wanted her future father-in-law to like her. Even then, it’s all about owning Saenkaew. And I don’t think that’s what that was anyway. So. No Pin, no.

I also don’t understand why Sasin didn’t say anything. He and Saenkaew just keep worrying about Pin with a “deal with it later” plan. It’s not totally surprising that it blew up in their faces.

But I love the Saenkaew that Sasin has inspired. I’m sorry you had to get shot, Sasin, but it was worth it to see Saenkaew stand up to his father. More of that, please.
