Marry My Husband & 1000 Years Old  – WDIW February 24th, 2024

Welcome to my weekly blog post where I give thoughts on dramas I’m watching but not recapping.

This week I recapped episodes 1 and 2 of 1000 Years Old, which I will mention again below.

This week I finished:

Marry My Husband – 내 남편과 결혼해줘 – 2024

A recently aired Korean fantasy-revenge-romance with 16 episodes.

A woman trapped in a miserable marriage is betrayed and murdered by her best friend and husband. Then, she goes back in time 10 years.

Here’s a link to the trailer.

Here’s a link to my initial review.

This show had a strong start and a couple that made my heart pitter-patter but faltered in the final stretch. The ending was satisfying and it may be my favorite Park Min Young since Healer, but my feelings are lukewarm about the whole.

I’ll foccus on my two main problems.

First, the time stuff was weak. In the beginning it’s set up that the universe always needs very specific things to happen — but it’s unconcerned with who is involved. Someone needs to be burned with water, that’s it.

After establishing that the details got dropped and the show focused mainly on our female lead manipulating someone into her ultimate fate – death. I was disappointed by this under utilization of the time mechanic. I was also horrified by a universe that demands blood sacrifice.

Second, I’m not sure what our female lead’s character arc was supposed to be. She starts as a complete underdog, smart but with no self confidence. Early on she gets a make-over and spends the rest of the show in 6 inch heels talking about becoming stronger. Her confidence seemed fixed so I was never sure what she was overcoming. This made her ultimate triumphs less satisfying.

There were other things I liked and other things that disappointed me. I loved our tall-and-strong-but-hates-using-force male lead and his devoted attitude. I hated that one of the sexist-pigs at the office became comic relief. I loved our two main villains. I was meh on a villain that showed up later and didn’t do much.

In this case, maybe going in knowing the last section is weak would lead to a better viewing experience. As it is, I can still recommend it to people based on certain aspects, but it’s not an all time favorite.

I also started:

1000 Years Old – อายุมั่นขวัญยืน – 2024

A currently airing paranormal Thai BL  episodes.

A 2024 Thai BL about a young man interested in all things paranormal who happens across a vampire.

Here’s a link to the trailer.

This series is by the same writer/director who did I Will Knock You, a very off-beat BL that I quite enjoyed. The first two episodes of this show have the same quirky sensibilities and unique characters, so I’m all in and already recapping it.

Since I already wrote up my initial thoughts under my Pre-Recap Information here, I’m not going into detail again. Basically, I’m a sucker for two characters drawn together more by fascination than physical attraction. I’m very looking forward to this vampire and this alien-obsessed college student getting to know each other better.
