My Personal Weatherman  – Episode 3 – Recap and Review

Recap

Mizuki is still bringing up that Yoh hates him. Yoh is still telling himself he hates Mizuki. Yoh is also struggling with his manga. On the plus side, the forecast is for sunny weather.

Yoh meets with his artist friend, and she just misses the chance to learn the identity of Yoh’s boyfriend. She gives him advice about having manga characters express themselves through action. Advice that maybe applies to other situations.

When she brings up Mizuki she notices Yoh doesn’t immediately claim to hate him the way he always does. Yoh is confused by his own behavior.

Then Mizuki confuses Yoh further by taking him on a date to Yokohama. Mizuki is sweet and attentive, taking Yoh to do anything that he shows interest in. Still, when they go to look at clothes Yoh decides Mizuki just brought him there to hold bags. Instead, Mizuki picks out a jacket and offers to get it for him. Yoh rejects it and flees.

Outside Yoh suggests Mizuki can do things on his own and Mizuki again brings up how Yoh hates him. Yoh struggles to disagree and Mizuki says he has something to do, so they split up.

They both have bags when they meet up again. Yoh VO confesses that he feels stupid because of how much Mizuki makes his heart race. He doesn’t think Mizuki feels the same way. To fight those feelings, he’d come up with reasons to hate Mizuki.

Back at home, Mizuki gives Yoh the jacket. Yoh apologizes for various things but Mizuki acts like it’s not needed.

Yoh has taken his friend’s advice and shows Mizuki his feelings by dumping a bag of new bed sheets on him. Mizuki understands that this is an invitation.

Mizuki is still teasing Yoh about hating him as they get hot and heavy in the bedroom. But post sexy times Mizuki comments to a sleeping Yoh that he really likes him. Yoh cuddles him and Mizuki smiles.

Thoughts

The episode was all about Yoh’s struggle with whether he hated Mizuki or not, but there was also good insight into Mizuki. Yoh may not say much, but Mizuki picked up on every non-verbal cue.

Yoh’s stomach rumbled so Mizuki took him to get the food of his choice. Yoh looked at the cable cars so Mizuki took him on them. Yoh looked scared on the cable car so Mizuki sat next to him and took his hand. Mizuki knows Yoh doesn’t really hate him because he wants post-sex cuddles.

Yoh doesn’t pick up on these non verbal clues though, he’s too busy protecting himself. The only thing Mizuki decided to do was clothes shopping and that’s when Yoh decided the whole trip was about Mizuki using him. Until Mizuki tried to get him a jacket.

At least by the end of the episode Yoh clued into what he was doing and what he wanted. I loved that he dumped the new sheets on Mizuki to communicate. It’s a nice way for him to grow a little while not acting out of character.

Also, I think the first smiles from Yoh we’ve seen was while Mizuki was teasing him about food.

Yoh isn’t the only one with emotional self-protective issues here. The way Mizuki kept bringing up how Yoh ‘hates’ him felt very defensive. He may know Yoh doesn’t hate him and have the cuddles to prove it, but why bring it up so much if it isn’t bothering him?
