My Romance Scammer – Episode 5-6 – Recap and Review

When last we left our rich cousins and their scammers, one of our scammers had been discovered.

But U and North are still kissing

Except right after, North pushes U away and claims he felt nothing. U vows to do whatever it takes to win him back.

His first attempt is balloons and flowers bought with North’s money. North is not impressed. U goes to Tim for help, who tells him to do something North wants deep down, without having to ask.

U wonders where Tim learned this. Tim doesn’t answer, but it’s totally ’cause Pai. Also, U is pursuing North because he’s sincerely in love with him. This is no longer a scam.

U returns to North’s, but North hides him away because Pai shows up to tell him to shut the bakery down. It’s yet to make a profit.

North is crushed. He goes to Bakery Friend, updates him, and calls himself a loser.

But U followed him! He doesn’t want North to blame himself, and wants to help him give it one more try.

Pai and Tim meet with Pai’s friend Kuea about developing some land

Tim acts so jealous that Pai drags him away and soothes him with a kiss. Soothed, Tim looks over Kuea’s paperwork and seems to know what he’s talking about, more on that later, but he hesitates about submitting a proposal.

I thought U offered to help North save the bakery, but he’s only helping out on their last day. Still, maybe because he fixed their promotion, they had their first profitable day ever.

New plan: Keep the bakery open, and if they have a profitable month, they can shove it in Pai’s face.

This success softens North’s attitude. Not only does he let U take him home, but he gives him a big kiss. Then he looks overwhelmed and runs. It’s adorable.

Tim’s “Do Not Fall for the Target” sticky has fallen, and he’s stepped on it. Symbolism.

Lawyer Friend visits and is surprised by Tim’s large home. It turns out Tim grew up poor, but his parents worked hard, invested, made money, bought the home, and then… hit a roadblock.

And fled to China without telling him. That sucks. He was supposed to sell the house, but he wants to save it so his family can move back.

Tim has an architecture degree, but he put it on hold because of the debt.

Pai has also had a tough day

Grandfather was not happy Pai only wants to be responsible for the mall and no longer wants to be CEO. Then he calmed down and told Pai he appreciated his honesty and wished him the best. I find this suspicious.

His aunt seemed happy, maybe because her completely useless child has a chance to become CEO?

Flashing back, Lawyer Friend finally got Tim to admit he’s in love with Pai. He knows Tim feels like he has two options, his family or Pai, but maybe there is a third option. Lawyer friend is awesome.

Back to the now, together at home, Pai takes Tim’s hand and asks for his help starting a family. Tim asks if he’s scared it won’t work out, and he’ll lose everything. But Pai says he’d still have him, and Tim says he chooses Pai, too.

Flashback one last time, Tim had already made his choice, erasing his scam from the whiteboard and starting to plan the housing project.

In the now, we get loving hugs! And vows of love! For once, Tim looks genuinely happy while hugging Pai.

Pai finds seeing Tim working hard very sexy

Time for sex on the living room floor!

Now that Tim’s committed, he needs to dump his four (Tim!) Sugar Mommas. He quickly takes care of three.

Next, he tries on tuxes and has to give U more advice. Despite that big kiss, North still doesn’t trust U. Tim says something we don’t get to hear.

The bakery is dead again, because it’s a weekday and U isn’t there to attract customers. Bakery Friend knows North isn’t going to sue U, because he still likes him. I agree. The liking isn’t the issue. It’s the trusting.

And here’s U! He threatens to reveal to Pai that the bakery is still running if North doesn’t come with him. Then, he takes North to his real place, where his (Fake) Mom waits.

Tim told U to come clean

He admits he shook the rope bridge to make North fall into the water. But getting lost in the woods was not the plan. The previous house was a rental, and so is (Fake) Mom.

Actually, she’s his Aunt. U is about to admit someone else is helping him, but… North has had enough. He feels like he can’t trust anyone ever again.

Was U about to reveal the truth about Tim? Why?

(Fake) Mom makes U leave to give North more backstory. U’s heartless mom raised him to be like her, then would betray him and take his money. Because of this, U doesn’t trust people.

But he trusts North.

North is affected, but still acts cold, getting his own ride back. But when U grabs the door handle at the same time as him, their hands touch, there’s STARING and MUSIC.

During an interview, Tim says he fell for Pai when he first saw him, three months before they met. Pai is being interviewed at the mall, and Tim saw him and thought they were too different to get along.

But when he got to know him, it made him love and care for him more. He never thought he could be in love this way, but Pai made it possible.

Pai has everyone look away so he can give him a cute little peck.

North is thinking HARD

He goes to the bakery, just to tell Bakery Friend that U came clean. But instead of taking that info to the police, he’s sitting at home, worried because U’s late. He doesn’t know if the person he fell for exists, but he can’t leave him either.

Bakery Friend is admirably honest in admitting he wouldn’t know what to do either.

Tim, Pai, and Kuea meet, and Tim is so jealous that Pai has to drag him away, again. Tim denies he’s jealous until Pai offers to kiss him if he admits it, and Tim says he wants to punch Kuea.

Kuea is impressed with Tim’s architecture plans. They give Kuea the wedding invite, and he accepts it with an odd slowness.

U returns (nearly) all the money to North

Minus what his mother stole, which he’ll get to him later. He would have done it sooner, but he had to withdraw it slowly. Now he hopes North believes he doesn’t want anything from him.

North knows he’s worth a lot as a husband. So U declares there’s no other way, taking North’s car. He uses it to pick up Fake Mom and Bakery friend. As witnesses for a divorce.

Tim’s remaining Sugar Momma is the one we’ve met. Despite his dread, she’s totally cool about the breakup. Too cool.

Then he calls the mom who abandoned him to postpone a visit because he has a new job, and a boyfriend that she’ll love. Yay?

At court, U explains he’s not giving up on North, but hopes this will help him trust him. Pai gets the text with the divorce certificate and is thrilled.

U packs up and returns the authentic doll North gave him

He explains how that day, his real mom stole everything, and he realized he might be falling for North. Someone as nice as North would never hurt him.

He was afraid to trust people, but waking up with North was the only time he felt safe. And he wanted to wake up in bed with him forever.

He understands that trust is hard to earn. He never trusted anyone until North.

But before he can leave, North pulls him into a hug. He says if he gave up like this, how would he ever trust him again?

Staaaaaaaaaaaring! Kisssssssssssssing! Nice size difference!

Instead of the usual clasped-hands-equal-sex shot, we get North clutching the doll. That’s. Interesting.

We learn that Tim and Pai’s wedding is a week away. They do some cute wrestling in bed! And kissing!

It’s all going to fall apart soon, right?

It’s taking longer than I expected for Tim and Pai. I’m curious how it’ll go down, now that Pai has also complicated things with his family. Tim actually having an architecture degree feels important too.

I’m a little unsatisfied with Tim’s backstory so far. I think it would have helped to see Tim and his relationship with this house in a stronger scene, a little earlier. Like we got to see U and his relationship with his Mom, instead of only being told.

That might have also helped with how Pai and Tim have felt stagnant at times in these last few episodes, especially compared with U and North. Before Pai finally told Grandpa he was done, and Tim finally admitted he was in love, things were dragging a little. More Tim back story and angst would have helped.

We’ll see if anything more happens. Maybe we’ll meet Tim’s Mom?

But having the couples in different phases of their relationships is good for pacing. Now that North and U have settled their feelings (I hope), I think it’s Tim and Pai’s turn to go through the wringer.

Given all the help Tim gave him, I hope U returns the favor.
