Pit Babe – Episode 8-9 – Recap and Review

Pit Babe and His Boyfriend, On or Off?

On! After some tumultuous episodes of distrust and car sex our leading duo stay boyfriend and boyfriend for the entirety of these two episodes.

In fact, the glow of their love for each other and various products is often at odds with the dark content of the episodes themselves. So let’s talk about what’s going on there.

Adopted Dad Tony’s Entrepreneurship

Businessman Tony has a no-waste policy. He sells orphans and Alphas for big money and the less talented people he sells for parts. When one of the racers on his team gets too nosy, Tony plans to sell his organs.

This poor racer, Kim. All he’s wanted this entire show is to have an honest race against Pit Babe. Instead he’s now the victim of an international criminal human trafficking business.

Pit Babe and his Boyfriend discover Kim’s apartment is covered with bloody handprints at head height. I don’t know how that would happen. They deduce that Kim has been Kim-napped.

Pit Babe turns into Scooby-Doo

So everyone (except Jeff, more on that later) is ready to work together to take down Tony.

Pit Babe, Babe’s Boyfriend, and Way work together to gather evidence against Tony to use for…. Something? Are they going to take this to the police? Sue him? I’m not really sure how Law & Order work in Pit Babe’s Universe.

But anyway, they use Way’s previously unknown job as a car dealer to discover a wealthy client. They make contact with his young Alpha to get more info on more wealthy clients. After another narrow escape they enjoy instant noodles while sitting outside on some steps.

Babe’s Boyfriend mentions his willingness to die for Babe. Babe must be in love because he argues against his Boyfriend’s desire to sacrifice himself.

Meanwhile Pit Babe’s chorus, North and Sonic, are on the case of the missing Kim. In one of the most amazing failed rescues ever, they find Kim, free Kim, and get him outside. Then, they get beaten up, Alan drives up, and they leave without Kim.

He’s like, a few feet away. They don’t even try. Poor Kim. I mentioned all he wanted to do was race against Pit Babe, right?

After that they all decide to live together at Alan’s place for safety. I’m not sure what this changes and Jeff still isn’t there. Let’s talk about why.

Jeff and the Enigma of the Enigma

First off, Jeff and Alan have some quality time over a meal on Alan’s lawn. Jeff tells Alan that he can see the future while touching people. From then on he keeps seeing the future without touching people. I don’t know.

Jeff is inspired by Alan’s concern for people enough to want to do more. He sneaks into everyone’s adopted Dad Tony’s place quite easily and sees Tony talking to the Enigma. Who the show has implied will impregnate Pit Babe without outright saying it.

Jeff is captured before he can tell anyone the Enigma’s identity. He’s gone the rest of the episode but no one really cares. Jeff doesn’t like talking to people. It’s just Jeff being Jeff.

Alan at least expresses some concern when he doesn’t show up for work. But. Well. It’s Jeff.

Meanwhile, Pit Babe thinks that he’s solved the enigma of the Enigma — It’s Pete! Investor Pete who, it turns out, is another adopted son of Tony. Pete who has also been trying to gather evidence against Tony. Enigma Pete.

But no, Jeff escapes from an unlocked, unguarded room and calls Babe’s Boyfriend to tell him — it’s Way! Babe’s Boyfriend doesn’t alert Babe in time and he’s captured! But then he arrives in time to stop the assault.

Pit Babe is broken up about his best friend. Way tries to act like it’s their only escape from Tony. There’s a lot of tears.

Unfortunately, Way has figured out Babe’s Boyfriend has his super powers. Now Tony is interested in getting back the son he was never wanted in the first place.

Alan’s Relationship Crisis

Even after Alan learns that Jeff was kidnapped his main focus is Jeff’s failure to reply to a movie invite. Alan is a confused mess of feelings. Sonic and North try to give him advice and he jumps in his pool a few times.

Jeff is recovering from his kidnapping ordeal with some toothpaste PPL when Alan shows up with food. Alan learns Jeff’s cell phone is in the hand of one of Tony’s goons and gives him his phone. Jeff jokes about being Alan’s Boy. They are adorable.

So What Now?

Unfortunately Jeff keeps having these no-touch premonitions in which everyone dies. Except Kim? He goes to his brother, Babe’s Boyfriend, and they talk about a plan. Babe’s Boyfriend mentions self-sacrifice again and Jeff is against it.

Jeff worries that if they change the future it will only be worse. Babe’s Boyfriend is adamant though. He believes Tony doesn’t know about his powers and that their plan will work.

So Jeff goes to Tony with a deal: He’ll bring him Babe’s Boyfriend in return for…. Ending everything?

There’s Still Some Racing in this Show

Pit Babe’s team races Tony’s team but without Pit Babe they can’t win. Everyone is upset, like it’s worse than the whole human trafficking issue.

Questions and Comments

If Tony doesn’t know about Babe’s Boyfriend having Babe’s powers, why do they think Tony wants him? And what is he trading him for?

Why is everyone so concerned about Kim all the sudden?

What evidence are they even trying to get? A wealthy client who will go on the record? Is Pit Babe, Charlie, Jeff and Pete’s testimony about him as a father not enough? Who HASN’T Tony adopted?

Did Kim really say “shylock”? Did Alan really say “gangbanged”? Are these subtitles to be trusted?

I’m fascinated that the show had an entire implied male-pregnancy subplot. It was never explicitly stated that Way would get Pit Babe pregnant. It’s like they want to be an omegaverse story but also not turn off anyone who might not like male pregnancy. Which is a choice. This is all assuming the subtitles are to be trusted, which they might not.

On a genuine note, I appreciated the insight into Jeff’s attraction to Alan-who-keeps-touching-him. Alan is always worrying about the other characters and how to help them. Considering the self-absorption levels of most of the characters (or Babe’s Boyfriend’s Babe Absorption) I can see how this would be appealing.

The fun thing about Pit Babe is I’m never quite sure what’s going to happen next. Will Way be redeemed? (This I can see.) Will Jeff turn out to be a bad guy? (This feels less likely.) Will Kenta and Kim happen? (I have no idea.)

I’ll see you in two episodes!
