Pit Babe Season 2 – Episode 1-2 – Recap and Review

Cars! Racing! Cargo containers! Oh, this is just the opening credits! Let’s go!

Babe is struggling with the dead-best-friend thing

He’s having nightmares about Way, but Babe’s babe Charlie is there to comfort him and make more mama and papa jokes. And sex.

Racing time! The gang’s all here! I hope no one reads this for my takes on the racing. The cars go. I don’t think the locations are physically connected, but it looks cool.

Charlie keeps hearing someone say “tik tik tik tock”. I think it’s the talented rookie on the other team, Willy. He beats Babe, who continues to handle defeat like a disappointed toddler.

Willy isn’t any better than Babe. He’s an arrogant jerk who implies Babe lost because of his love for Charlie. Baby stalks off dramatically to be alone.

Charlie is busy with science stuff anyway

He and Pete have a lab to test the alpha-power dissolving thing. It’s not working, but they are torturing their volunteers. Charlie is upset that he still has Babe’s senses, not that Babe’s racing is suffering.

One of the other science guys thinks they need someone with more science, and Pete is willing to spend money on it.

At home, Charlie does the underwear-apron combo for Babe again. He talks about the lab, and we learn he’s not volunteering for the tests because of his racing. There’s some more Papa-Mama talk, and sex on the hood of a car that’s inside their house.

Because of that, Charlie misses a call from Jeff.

Jeff is being a bad boyfriend

He’s been suppressing his powers, though I’m not sure when that happened, but suddenly can’t anymore. Now his visions are stronger and causing nosebleeds. But he’s not telling Alan.

Alan notices Jeff is reluctant to touch him again and asks about the visions. Jeff denies anything is happening, and Alan is too nice to push it. But even after Alan has left and he’s not touching anyone, Jeff has a vision of Way.

No one is moving on from Way, least of all Pete

I *think* he’s turned Way’s old place into a secret lair of some kind? But I’m not sure.

Since it’s been a year since Way died, they have a memorial at the garage with flowers and candles on his car. Pete arrives and they give him alone time with the car. He tells Way’s picture that he loves him too. That’s more intense than I was expecting.

Jeff finds Charlie and tells him what’s going on. He thinks his powers have evolved. And he saw Way in his visions.

You won’t believe what happens next

Or maybe you watched the trailer.

Charlie shows Babe the lab since I guess he’s never seen it. Babe worries about zombies. I would love zombies to show up.

The new researcher is there, and he looks exactly like Way. Everyone gets in his face, and Pete uses his thought-sensing powers to confirm he’s Not-Way. But Pete doesn’t want to work with him.

Babe reports about the Way clone to everyone at the garage. He accuses Not-Way of being involved in Way’s death. But Way got shot at that auction, so how? His death isn’t a mystery.

Alan reminds everyone that Tony is also dead. But. I’ll get to that.

Also worth noting, Sonic is studying fashion somewhere but is back for a visit. Things between him and North are … awkward.

Not-Way just wants to do his job

Like Way, he’s at the bar with Pete. He makes it clear he’s sticking around and mentions that there’s something shady about this research. Because people are talking about it. I think.

And because of that, Pete should trust him and keep him on the team. Sure, why not?

So, about Tony. Kenta, Winner, and someone whom I am reminded later is Dean, are kidnapped. Dean makes a run for it and is maybe shot. More on that later.

Kenta and Winner are brought to meet up with Tony in a wheelchair. Tony is Not Dead. And he wants to teach everyone a lesson. Winner is eager to help. Kenta isn’t, and gets pistol-whipped, dragged away, and dumped somewhere.

Tony doesn’t kill him because he needs to get together with Kim. And Tony wants to focus on someone else. He’s planted someone to tear X-Hunter apart.

Speaking of Kim

He quits the team. Because it’s hard to be on a team with Babe, who has to be first and the focus of all attention. Fair, but it seems rude to suddenly quit. Not even two weeks’ notice?

Alan is stressed, even without knowing about Jeff’s lies. They promote North to take Kim’s spot. He races? Sonic forgets to be awkward and gives North eager hugs.

Alan surprises everyone by hiring Dean as their new mechanic, and has him show up like a surprise guest on a game show. Everyone is totally fine with it, making wrench jokes because he tried to kill Babe with a wrench (which apparently I thought was a hammer.)

Everyone wants Babe

Willy finds Babe alone at a bar and comes onto him in an unattractive, aggressive way. This naturally leads to a street race. Babe will go home with Willy if he loses. Willy will leave Babe alone if he loses. I guess it’s character development that Babe’s no longer betting other people.

Babe wins, but Willy makes him take a selfie together.

Charlie is waiting at home with questions. He’s the second person to push Babe for sex, but Babe likes Charlie, and they have stair sex. Ouch. Later, Charlie looks at the picture of Babe and Willy. It takes some product placement the next morning to improve his mood.

At the lab, Not-Way talks to Charlie about how he’s particularly immune to the skill suppressants.

Jeff is alone in the garage when another vision hits. He sees cars crashing and Babe getting hurt. Nose bleeding, he calls Alan to tell him to call Babe, then collapses.

Why didn’t Jeff call Babe directly?

But anyway, all this works perfectly for me in its marvelous Pit Babe combination of silliness, seriousness, and soap opera dramatics. Best of all, we’re not wasting time, as Not-Way is here and Tony is back. Are they zombies? Clones?

I’m less thrilled that Tony’s new plan is the same as last season’s plan. I’m hoping it’s someone more interesting than Dean, because that is exactly the same plan. Not-Way is the next likely candidate. But what if it were Sonic? I can hope, right?

Or maybe hiring Dean is connected to some larger plan by our good guys? It is surprising how Babe hates losing but is fine working with a guy who tried to kill him.

Jeff is making some Poor Choices. Why is he lying to Alan? Is this just Jeff being Jeff? Trust issues after Alan failed to notice him getting kidnapped? These two are still my favorite, so I’m looking forward to seeing some angst, whether or not it’s well motivated.

We’re leaning hard into the mama/papa teasing, but there’s no new omegaverse stuff to be seen.

Is all of this a little silly? Yes. Am I having a lot of fun? Yes.
