Welcome to my weekly blog post where I give thoughts on dramas I’m watching but not recapping. Kinda. This week is a little different. It’s in the title.
First though, I finished recapping If It’s With You. If you want something short but heartwarming it’s an excellent watch. Also recommended if you liked My Love Mix-Up style opposites attract or the gentle healing of Our Dining Table.
Now, onto a show that it turns out I am sorta, kinda, recapping.
Pit Babe – พิษเบ๊บ – 2023 – Episodes 3-5
Currently airing Thai omegaverse BL, I’m at 6 out of 13 episodes.
A really awesome racer named Pit Babe gets suddenly deeply involved with a wanna-be racer named Charlie, who may be more than he seems.
Here’s a link to my review/recap of the first 2 episodes.
Since I so enjoyed giving a more humorous, condensed rundown of the first two episodes of this amazing show I decided I had to keep going. So let’s talk about episodes 3 through 5, there will be nothing but SPOILERS ahead.
So, how are Pit Babe and his Babe?
At first things are great, Pit Babe reveals his sad past to his Babe AND makes him his apprentice. But then Way reveals that Babe’s Babe put his arms around Jeff’s shoulders so Pit Babe gives Jeff and his Babe the cold shoulder.
Babe’s Babe stays positive despite the rejection and offers sex to help Babe win the race. He rejects the sex and does not win the race. Pit Babe has a very “If you’re not first you’re last” attitude.
A still eager Babe’s Babe uses all the product placement at his disposal and also protects Pit Babe from a violent attack. Unfortunately, this isn’t enough to overcome his passionate shoulder embrace with Jeff, and Pit Babe dumps his Babe. Then in another race Pit Babe’s car spins around and explodes in flame. Babe’s Babe goes running to save him.
At a suitably dramatic moment it’s revealed that Babe’s Babe and Jeff are adopted brothers. Pit Babe is still jealous, but decides to forgive his Babe for being related to Jeff. Now he is ready to enthusiastically participate in all the product placement. That toothpaste must be amazing.
Pit Babe still has problems though. For one thing, he’s mysteriously lost his super senses. For another, because of his injuries he can’t race and the rest of his team only exists to create content and problems. But Babe’s Babe is ready to step up and take his place.
Not so fast though, first he and another racer have to outrace… Pit Babe? What? No!
What’s going on with Way?
Way is another racer and Pit Babe’s bestie. He also secretly wants to be Pit Babe’s Babe. Flashbacks show Pit Babe destroying Way’s heart with bad-pretend-flirting-jokes. No need to feel bad for either of them, Way gets his revenge by constantly telling Pit Babe he’s all alone except for Way. They kinda deserve each other.
What about Pit Babe’s evil adopted Dad’s and his evil adopted plot?
Tony keeps busy trimming bonsai and drinking green juice and plotting away, don’t worry. The subtitler decided to stop using penetrate so much, which made me a little sad.
Forget those guys, let’s talk about Jeff
No-touch-Jeff is the only rational adult in a sea of Pit Babe fanboys. And nicer than any of them deserve. Even though Alan won’t stop with the touching, Jeff gives him useful business advice to save the team. Then he tries to get Pit Babe to understand he does not want Babe’s Babe. The first works better than the second.
For his trouble he becomes the prime suspect when Pit Babe’s car explodes into flames. He’s proven innocent but he’s done with these guys. Alan tries to convince him to stay by saying it’s his own fault for being unfriendly. Alan!
Jeff gets so upset he has to use his GPS to get directions from his work to home. A handy feature available on this amazing car available at dealerships everywhere.
Run Jeff, run. Except I’m totally looking forward to seeing Alan grovel to get him back.
Wait, what about the Omegaverse?
Or really, what omegaverse?
We learn Pit Babe’s tragic childhood included adoptive Dad Tony torturing him to enhance his senses or something. Because he’s an alpha he heals extra fast, but honestly that’s a characteristic of most drama characters, omegaverse or not.
We learn No-touch-Jeff is no-touch because touching causes him to see future things, like Pit Babe’s car bursting into flames. Presumably he checked Pit Babe’s car to try and stop it from happening and it didn’t work. So. Sucky super power.
Undoubtedly other characters have superpowers that we haven’t learned yet.
Otherwise, alphas, betas, omegas and male pregnancy don’t come up. So. If that’s why you’re here you might be disappointed.
But are you actually recommending this or not?
If you are taking it seriously, the show has a number of things that you might not like. Babe’s Babe is a pretty one-note puppy. Babe himself is considered awesome by everyone because of his racing skills but personality wise I’m not seeing much to recommend him.
Their romance is an uneven mix of unmotivated devotion from Babe’s Babe and… I guess Babe likes that? And the sex? But their connection is so easily threatened by outside forces that it’s hard to cheer them on.
The cars driving around that circle are okay I guess. Babe’s Dad’s plotting isn’t nearly as interesting as whatever weird juices he’s drinking.
But I’m not taking this seriously. I’m loving it for being a semi-omegaverse-racing-super-power-soap-opera where seemingly everyone is a potential partner to someone else.
The inventive novelty of it all has my full attention and curiosity: Will there be a fight at the 50s diner/bar? Or will someone’s super powers affect an upcoming race? Who will Pete, the financial backer who shoots arrows into trees, fall for? Will Jeff admit why he’s so no touching? Why are Sonic and North on a racing team if they don’t want to race?
No other show has me asking so many questions.
