Pre-Recap Information:

Time to add another long Chinese historical-ish drama to my BL-heavy drama diet!

My reasons for picking this one are not sophisticated: Strangers on the internet say it’s very good, and were overall satisfied by the ending. And Internet Strangers and I often part ways over BLs, my tastes better align with theirs in the cdrama world.

An entire cdrama is a big commitment, so I’m counting on you, Internet Strangers!

It also doesn’t hurt that our male lead is familiar to me, and not just from his Fairy Lord role in Love Between Fairy and Devil. I first spied him in one of those formulaic Chinese Youth Dramas, Flourish In Time. He’s good at the quiet, reserved, yearning kind of lover.

The female lead I recognize from the excellent modern older-woman-younger-man romance My Fated Boy. In it, she’s an annoying (aren’t they all) second female lead. But despite that, I always kind of liked her, so I’m happy to see her on my screen again.

I’m padding out my word count with this info on the actors because I really don’t know a whole lot about the plot.

I know that our male lead, Yan Zheng, has SECRETS. I don’t know any of them. And I don’t know why he agrees to marry Changyu, except that she saves his life, needs help, and seems nice. I’m sure all will be revealed over the next 38 episodes.

As I’ve mentioned before, what I want from a cdrama is something that (right now anyway) I can’t get from a BL (or GL, or a modern BG romance): Mainly, a lot of high drama and angst, horse rides at night, fighting, long separations, character death (but not the leads), etc.

So let the marriage of convenience begin!
