I’ve already watched this show and wrote about my initial feelings.
I’m recapping it because it’s got everything I like in it. We’ve got a deaf lead, a poor rich lead, an amazing height difference, opposites attract, adults with jobs (kinda), and useless criminals. These are a lot of my favorite things.
The show is very light on plot and anyone wanting a serious depiction of the criminal underworld should keep searching. Our lead’s relationship is the core of the story.
Our poor rich guy, Zi Xiang, acts spoiled, useless, and incompetent to get out of his responsibilities as heir to the family business. Through a series of very drama-coincidences, he meets Shao Peng. Shao Peng is a capable, skilled, competent deaf man repeatedly rejected from jobs because of discrimination.
These setups could be the beginning of a darker drama about the cruel unfairness of existence but no, it’s not that kind of drama. The madcap silliness of the first few episodes will make that clear. After them though, it mellows out into something light in tone but sincere about the character’s feelings and emotional arcs.
It’s surprising how often light, sweet, heartwarming fluff can be ruined by poor storytelling. Instead of a good feeling I get left sour and annoyed. I’m recapping this show because, despite all its flaws, it’s a show that leaves me smiling and believing in the strength of love.
Also, I wanted to watch it again and recapping is a justification. In case anyone asks.
