Welcome to my Saturday blog post where I give thoughts on dramas I’m watching, whether at the beginning, middle, or end. Whatever I want, because I’m petty that way.
This week I recapped the final episodes 9-10 of The Boy Next World. Follow that link for specifics on how the show failed me, or read below to get a general, spoiler-free review.
I also recapped episodes 13-14 of Love Game in Eastern Fantasy, in which Miao Miao completely forgets she was going to rescue some demons but we love her anyway.
What did I watch this week? I just told you, it’s time for a series review of:

The Boy Next World – คนละกาลเวลา – 2025
Recently aired Thai parallel-world college BL with 10 episodes.
A college student comes out of a coma claiming to be from a parallel world and determined to unite with his parallel-world lover, confusing everyone around him.
Considering this is from the people who brought us Love in the Air and Love Sea, it’s not the kind of show I would usually recap. They don’t have much plot and focus on romantic/sexual push-pull balanced with hot scenes.
But this one teased me with the promise of a parallel world plot, so recap it I did. And was I satisfied with the plot they promised?
Nope. Without getting into spoilers, I loved the parallel world idea that was eventually revealed.

But it didn’t matter to the romantic plot, or anything
The parallel world part could be neatly cut from the story with minimal rewriting.
To be fair, 4Minutes has a similar problem, where the timey-wimey part didn’t change anything about what happened. But where 4Minutes had intense characters seeking dangerous revenge, dramatic cinematography, and a complicated second couple, The Boy Next World had college BL nonsense.
There were friends who didn’t do much. An evil mom who was defeated in an improbable and disturbing way that everyone was fine with. An evil fiancé because this kind of story needs an evil fiancé. Interesting mysteries turned out to be nothing. Problems conveniently went away.
But I did like the second couple here. Turns out I’m a sucker for when someone extremely annoying finds someone who adores them for those qualities. I like the romantic idea that there’s someone for everyone.

But really, it’s my fault for expecting more
Again, think Love in the Air and Love Sea. Their plots are “characters meet and have sex”, with the sex part coming sooner or later depending on the couple. Nothing wrong with that if you aren’t expecting more.
What the show has is actors Boss and Noeul, their chemistry, and their hot scenes. I prefer the weird fluffy kink of their characters in Love in the Air, but I’m not fighting anyone over what show is “best” here.
Just remember to turn off your brain before you hit “play” and you’ll be fine.
And if you want spoilers on the parallel world idea that I would love to see turned into a wild BL plot, you can read my recap of these two episodes.
