The Proper Way to Write Love – Episode 7-8 – Recap and Review – End

When last we left the hairdresser and his “bully”, they moved in together.

Which means we get sweet morning moments

Hiro strokes sleeping Natsuo’s hair, then makes them breakfast, but pretends it’s only for himself. Then he gives Natsuo the key to his place. Plant POV creepily spies on them.

Hiro receives a reunion invitation and a flashback to the misery that was high school.

Nevermind that, he goes on a date with Natsuo to the garden, where Hiro won’t even admit that he likes flowers. He’s something. They ride on a tiny train together and sit on a stair … statue(?) in a very Instagrammable way.

Natsuo wants to go to the reunion to check on his crush

His high school crush tells him that there’s no way someone who was treated that way in high school would go to a reunion.

Natsuo basically lives at Hiro’s place now, so he’s alone there when Hiro goes to work. He notices Hiro’s calendar, and thinks it’s sweet that their 1-month anniversary is marked.

Then he knocks over the delphinium

SYMBOLIC DISASTER.

His first instinct is to… look for a book on plants. Sure. He finds the book from high school, with the furigana that Hiro wrote for him, and realizes the truth.

As luck would have it, Hiro’s job is at the same place as the reunion. Let’s go along with it so that things can happen.

One of Hiro’s former bullies recognizes him and drags him to the reunion, where everyone starts flattering him. Then he overhears what they really think: the girls would sleep with him, and the guys think he has money. This wasn’t what he wanted.

And here’s Natsuo!

While the bullies watch, Natsuo asks Hiro why he lied to him. Hiro leaves without saying anything.

At home, Hiro sees the delphinium still symbolically on the floor. Natsuo follows, still asking for answers. Hiro says Natsuo has no idea how much he hated him, what he went through, and how he became a hairstylist to prove them all wrong. He explains his plan for revenge and the real meaning behind the mark on the calendar.

Hiro grabs at Natsuo and his clothes, telling him to take them off. Natsuo slaps him, cries, and leaves. Poor Natsuo.

We’re back at the beginning of the show

Hiro tells himself that this is what he wanted. He wakes up alone. The poor delphinium is still symbolically on the ground.

Natsuo is also sad but not alone. He has his boss, who wants to know what’s going on. Natsuo asks if his boss has ever hurt someone without realizing it. He’s always been made fun of and dumped in under a month. But it feels different this time.

True, Hiro never made fun of Natsuo.

His boss says this is the first time he’s seen Natsuo worry or try to grow the relationship.

Show wants us to believe Natsuo gets run over by a car

Somehow, there is an immediate news post with a picture of Natsuo’s keys on the ground. And Hiro’s coworkers see it right away.

Hiro is in the middle of styling an important influencer, but the moment he sees the picture, it’s time for RUNNING

Natsuo’s fine. He’s at the hospital with his boss, who is thankfully also fine. I think he was near the accident when it happened, got startled, and dropped his keys? Whatever. It gave Hiro a reason to run and prove what’s important to him.

They talk, and Hiro admits he hated Natsuo in high school. He was always bothering Hiro, and Hiro was such a loser. Basically, he hated himself and Natsuo.

But Natsuo was the only one who talked to him. And he wanted to talk to him more, but he had no self-confidence and was always running away from facing himself.

Natsuo feels Hiro hasn’t changed

He’s always had this earnest side that Natsuo liked. In high school, Hiro listened to him. He was happy to realize that Hiro and his high school crush were the same person.

No matter how Hiro looks, he’d fall in love with him again. Awwwwwwwwwww.

Hiro admits that without Natsuo, his day sucks, and it hurts not to have Natsuo with him. He loves him!

Back at Hiro’s place, we get some sweet-spicy sex with Hiro in charge.

But what about the delphinium???

Hold on. First, Hiro’s co-worker is now popular because she took over for him with the influencer. Hiro is Hiro and takes credit for her popularity. But he’s fine with her becoming more popular than him. Growth!

They take the Delphinium to some random prepared hole by a tree. After the shock it went through, it needs some sunlight. We see a creepy plant POV-flashback combo as they talk about moving it outside.

Hiro compliments Natsuo for being so smart and knowing what’s most important. Natsuo wants a cuddle. They’re sweet

Really, they needed that creepy plant to stop watching them

It took some big coincidences, but the truth came out, and their relationship is stronger. It was so Natsuo to be happy falling in love with Hiro a second time. He doesn’t seem like the type to hold a grudge.

I liked the evolution of Natsuo’s access to Hiro’s apartment. First, he lets himself in. Later, he’s knocking respectfully. Then Hiro waits for him. Then he’s given a key. It’s a nice overview of their relationship.

Hiro needs unconditional love. He’s been fantasizing that by being beautiful and successful, he’ll be happy and safe. But it’s just a fantasy. Instead, he was lonely and lying to himself about being happy.

Not that he won’t continue being a beautiful, hard-working, arrogant, silly hair stylist, but it’s not his entire identity. He has flowers, Natsuo, and whatever Natsuo makes them do together.

With Hiro, Natsuo won’t be left alone or made fun of ever again. Hiro will fuss over and take care of Natsuo the same way he does his plants. And Natsuo will make weird things for them to eat. It’s so romantic.
