When last we left our Prosecutor and his new Investigator, Chaeha learned that Taeseon is Woosung’s son.
Now he thinks Taeseon was with him for revenge
Chaeha’s a crying mess, and so is Taeseon, who tells him the closer they got, the harder it was to tell him the truth. But he was going to tell him, after Gilyoung was proven innocent.
If his father weren’t innocent, Chaeha wonders if Taeseon would keep toying with him. Or dump him without explanation?
Taeseon admits he thought of revenge, but Chaeha was too miserable. But now, because of Taeseon, Chaeha is more miserable than ever.
Taeseon apologizes. But Chaeha apologizes too, for his father, who made Taeseon’s life hell. But Taeseon knows Chaeha’s been living in hell too. He wants them to find a way out together.
Chaeha isn’t getting over this in one conversation. He tells Taeseon that looking at him makes him feel wretched. Finally, Taeseon lets him go.
Chaeha goes home to sob on his kitchen floor while Taeseon sits outside his front door.
Chaeha finally gets up the next morning when the doorbell rings
He’s obviously disappointed when it’s Song, not Taeseon. Song says he looks terrible and gives him porridge and a hug.
Taeseon throws himself into going through old evidence. He discovers vials of anesthetic from one of Tak’s cases that could be used to kill someone. Because Jahyeon’s husband’s autopsy was 12 hours later, it would have appeared like a cardiac arrest.
So. That’s probably that murder weapon.
Taeseon also takes one of the victims’ phones, but there’s no data on it. He gives it to Song to take to forensics.
Keeping busy, he sneaks into Tak’s office. There he notices a dead plant and finds a syringe buried in it. The one used on Kim, probably. Wild.
Yoon finds him, and Taeseon tells him he plans to get an arrest warrant for Tak tomorrow.
Poor, sad Chaeha realizes someone may be in his apartment
He quickly calls Taeseon, but is attacked! It’s Tak! Luckily, Taeseon arrives to save him. Tak wishes he’d killed both of them back then.
After the cops take Tak away, Taeseon and Chaeha worry about each other and hug. Taeseon calls Chaeha his weakness. He thought he wanted Chaeha to be miserable, but that only makes him miserable.
He apologizes again. But Chaeha would like to be miserable with Taeseon. Aww.
Tak knew about the arrest warrant, so someone is leaking info. It has to be Yoon or Song. Taeseon wants Chaeha safe and away from everything. But Chaeha wants them to get out of this hell together.
And, he wants to kiss Taeseon!
Taeseon and Chaeha face Tak in the interrogation room
After some resistance, he admits that Jahyeon got mad over the issues with the drugs and rushed at Kim. Kim hit her, so Tak stabbed him with the syringe. But he won’t admit to killing Woosung. Or reveal his son’s identity.
Outside, Taeseon tells Chaeha they need to force the son to reveal themselves. Uh-oh.
They meet with Yoon and Song to discuss the case. Yoon reveals that he and Soyeon have different birthdays because she was born before midnight and he was born after.
But despite this, Taeseon knows Yoon can’t be Tak’s son because of Soyeon. But… that means it’s Song, right? And you should be super careful? Maybe get a DNA sample?
Or leave Chaeha alone at home for the night
Before he leaves, Taeseon checks the closets and under the bed for monsters. But once he’s gone, Yoon calls Chaeha to ask him to come back to the office. Chaeha Does Not Hesitate.
Meanwhile, Taeseon goes to the columbarium to visit Soyeon. He suddenly remembers Tak visiting his sister’s niche, and has it opened. Inside the sister’s urn, mixed with her ashes, he finds an awl. It’s another of Tak’s trophy murder weapons.
Then, he learns that the phone evidence was contaminated by someone’s DNA. But that DNA matches the DNA on the glove, which matches Song!
Song meets Chaeha at the office, claiming Yoon also called him in. But Chaeha remembers all the strange remarks Song has made and realizes he’s the son!
Too late, Song pulls a knife on him.
Song gets Chaeha up to the roof to fake suicide
He thinks this is the only way to make Taeseon stop.
Instead, Chaeha grabs the knife so there will be proof that he didn’t just jump off the roof. This infuriates Song, right as Taeseon arrives. Chaeha grabs Song to keep him from Taeseon, and is stabbed in the gut.
Taeseon kicks Song away, and sobs over Chaeha. Then he’s at the hospital. Then he’s at the beach. Alone, watching the news about the murderers being caught.
Chaeha walks up from… somewhere. They stand in front of a screensaver and talk about how happy they are to be together.
Taeseon has a new proposal for Chaeha, though the only answer allowed is yes: Will he go out with him?
Then… he puts cuffs on them. Chaeha’s cuffs. Kinky to the end, as they should be.
They kiss and declare their love for each other, sorta. Chaeha VOs about snakes and misfortune, and how being with Taeseon makes him willing to accept everything.
Yeah, those last ten minutes were a little rough
The problem isn’t just how bad that beach scene looked. Everything after the Tak interview was rushed. I don’t fully understand what they were trying to do to lure the son out, or what Yoon’s call to lure Chaeha to the office was really about. I think Yoon is still a good guy?
They also needed more time to build suspense over Chaeha’s injury. A few minutes of our villains suffering on screen would be nice too.
And no beach. I want a domestic scene with Taeseon and Chaeha.
Still, up until then, I think the show did an amazing job with its limited time/money budget and complex mystery/love story. I kinda can’t believe Jahyeon didn’t kill at least one person, but whatever.
(I’ve also figured out that nicotine syringes are used for refilling vapes, so that explains that.)
Most importantly, I bought Chaeha and Taeseon’s complicated bond and their obsession with each other. Even when Chaeha was devastated by the truth, I knew he couldn’t stay apart from Taeseon long.
So I’m deducting points for this last episode, but it doesn’t ruin the show for me. Chaeha and Taeseon are happy, so I’m happy.
