Welcome to my weekly blog post where I give short thoughts on things I’m watching but not recapping.
I’m currently recapping Bad Buddy and Love Between Fairy and Devil, and this week Silent had its last episode so I recapped the last episode and posted some final thoughts.
I’m still watching and enjoying Between Us and I Will Knock You. In Japan Jitenshaya-san no Takahashi-kun and Koi to Dangan both had their final episodes this week but the English subs are not available yet. My Japanese is not good enough for me to give my final thoughts without them. To see my general thoughts on any of these shows, which haven’t changed, you can read my post from December 10th.
Summer Strike is something I watch angrily now, and since it’s finishing up next week you’ll get my final thoughts then.
Also still watching and loving To Sir With Love with its wild soap-opera drama mixed with sensitive historical gay portrayal. I wrote last week about my general thoughts and since then have gone on an unexpected ride with this show involving corpse-grown mushrooms that has made me love the show more.
This week I watched the entirety of:
Choco Milk Shake – Korean 2022
Recently aired Korean BL with 11 episodes of 10 minutes each
In this show, a man is reunited with his childhood dog and cat who have come back as people to improve his sad life. With the usual Korean BL web-drama type length, it’s too short to go too deeply into the characters and their relationships and the show had a dream-like feeling that suited the subject matter. There were also a lot of sweet, cute, funny moments due to the animal-like natures of the pet-people.
This week I also started:
My Tooth Your Love (Pictured) – Taiwan 2022
Recently aired Taiwanese BL with 12 episodes and I’m part-way into episode 7
In this show, a restaurant owner with a toothache and a cold-seeming dentist meet for obvious reasons.
Taiwanese BL are the most down-to-earth of the genre, compared to Japanese or Thai BL. They usually feature ordinary men navigating real-world relationship issues. After watching so much more fantastical stuff, it’s nice to see something a little more relatable.
The restaurant owner is self-medicating rather than dealing with some past trauma, but he’s also a vibrant and fun person. The dentist is cold and introverted, but he gets drawn to the other man, learning about him and finding himself attracted and wanting to help him and be with him. Though there’s some awkwardness of two people meeting and learning about each other, there’s no coyness about the character’s feelings or their intentions toward one another. They’re two adult men who might be interested in dating.
Basically, it’s an opposites-attract kind of situation with the main conflicts being internal and character-driven, so I’m here for it. I hope to finish it within the next week!
