When it rains, it pours – Episode 7 – Recap and Review – End

When last we left our sexless duo, they were no longer sexless, which was good, but everything else went wrong.

Nakarai is avoiding Hagiwara at work

And Fujisawa hasn’t returned home since that night. Nakarai is interested in Hagiwara but blames loneliness. Yet, when he overhears that Hagiwara and Kaori broke up, he nearly emails Hagiwara.

Hagiwara symbolically pulls off the band-aid from the broken Storm Glass injury. He may be getting a new job and wishes Nakarai emailed him instead of scammers.

Nakarai’s old friend suddenly becomes important

Hagiwara saw Nakarai politely put this friend off several episodes ago. This time, Hagiwara runs into him alone. Later, Nakarai finds a business card on his desk.

Nakarai meets with this old friend, who is happy and embarrassed that Hagiwara connected them. This prompts Nakarai to think about how nice Hagiwara was to him, both before and during sex.

At home, he sees the de-BBQ-smell spray he used for Fujisawa. He realizes he completely forgot.

Time to find out why Fujisawa is awful

Turns out, he liked Nakarai first. Then one day, Nakarai’s parents pulled over while driving to chat. They ominously told him to take care of Nakarai, drove off, got into an accident, and died.

He blamed himself for delaying them and causing their deaths. Taking care of Nakarai was his apology. But he couldn’t accept Nakarai’s love, which only started after his parents died.

Nakarai says depressing things about his parents being fated to die that I don’t like, but I agree it’s not Fujisawa’s fault. I don’t dislike Fujisawa because I think he killed Nakarai’s parents.

He tells Fujisawa to use his energy to support himself. Nakarai will walk with his own strength. Go away, Fujisawa.

Nakarai sees that it’s sunny but raining.

Nakarai wants to see Hagiwara

But does nothing about it. Meanwhile, Hagiwara deletes Narakai’s contact info.

At work, Nakarai learns Hagiwara might be leaving the company and isn’t at work. He realizes Hagiwara is visiting that gallery before it closes.

When Hagiwara leaves the gallery, it’s raining. But this time, Nakarai is the one with an umbrella. Nakara confesses and says he wants to be with him. Hagiwara says he feels the same.

The umbrella comes down, and Hagiwara kisses him. Then he asks for his email and kisses him more.

So does Hagiwara have a new job or not?

Whatever, it doesn’t matter. This is a good final episode, but two things bother me.

Fujisawa comes off as abusive and horrible. In theory, he kept Nakarai going after his parents died, but we don’t see his caregiving qualities. The TV doesn’t count. He seems controlling and isolating. I think Nakarai isolated himself, but again, I didn’t see it. Showing his kindness would have helped. Also, no assault.

I’m also not sure why Nakarai accepted his feelings for Hagiwara. The old friend proved that Hagiwara cared, but I think Nakarai already knew that? I thought his self-doubt was about himself. Was it just the risk of Hagiwara leaving the company?

Maybe I missed something.

These things do not change my overall satisfaction level. This low-key, gentle ending fits the tone. I’m glad there was no final episode running, normally a jdrama staple.

Hagiwara left Nakarai alone because that’s what he wanted. Given space, Nakarai realized he wanted to be with Hagiwara, and confessed in a direct, Nakarai way. I love how their personalities fit together.

I’m left confident that if one of them isn’t in the mood for sex, they’ll be honest and communicative. That’s far more important than counting on your desires always syncing.
