ClaireBell – Episode 3-4 – Recap and Review

When last we left our rabid dog and new arrival, Bell got punched in the nose by Deedee.

Claire sees Pa being wheeled out, unconscious

Then, she sees Bell’s nose. She goes straight for Deedee, but Dao stops her.

Pa is fine! Except for the alzheimers. She tells Claire no one is to blame for her collapse.

Mangpor’s business is growing, so Wichai wants a bigger cut. Porsche comes into his father’s office as Dao leaves, noticing she had no female guard with her. He tries to tell his Dad about the fighting and Pa’s alzheimer’s. Wichai is Not Interested.

Deedee is upset Dao slapped her and wonders why she’s afraid of Claire. Because Claire can get past her 3D guards and beat her in the shower, that’s why. She tells Deedee not to mess with her company again.

Top is drinking and still wants to help Bell SO much. But his Daddy sells his car and forbids him from even seeing her. Daddy is some kind of rich anti-drug politician.

Top wants to hit his Dad, but doesn’t. Is this show ending with Top killing his Dad?

Bell still can’t reach him, so she calls her father’s caretaker, only to learn that Top fired her.

Claire and Bell get some staaaaring in before going about their days. Bell’s shoes are stolen while she’s praying, and she isn’t allowed to buy new ones. Kae sees this and wants to help.

Pa is waiting for her son and doesn’t remember Claire. While praying, she remembers he was murdered, and she killed the murderer with her car.

Back in their cell, Claire gives Pa her pills and lies with her. When Pa asks why she’s so nice, she says Pa took care of her when she first got there.

Mangpor is given the option to increase Wichai’s cut or be put out of business

She takes the cut.

Bell finds Claire in the greenhouse and fondles some roses. Claire is a bit, er, prickly, but is impressed by Bell’s rose knowledge. She seems happy with Bell ordering her around the garden. At one point, their hands touch while replanting roses, and there are FEELINGS.

This show will not let us enjoy happiness for long, because Pa is walking and she’s brought her pills. Uh-oh.

To help Bell, Kae starts a loan business with Deedee that also gets Mangpor more money. They’ll keep it secret from Wichai and Dao, or he’ll take a big cut. Deedee wants power, Mangpor wants money. This all works.

Deedee agrees to leave Bell alone. Kae gives Bell some PPL and tells her she’s cleared things with Deedee, but doesn’t go into details.

Bell’s shoes get stolen again, but this time she’s given replacement shoes for free. In the abandoned bathroom, Claire gives her a pen to write her name on them. Bell thinks it’s better to put Claire’s name on them. Very cute.

Not cute is how Bell feels like she’s all alone, and has gone from fighting for freedom to fighting to survive. Claire says everyone is fighting the same battles. Well, Claire doesn’t want freedom. There’s nothing for her out there.

Bell thinks maybe Claire likes her, and Claire gets shy. Then she talks about them both being alone and the importance of having someone. So Bell again asks if she likes her, then goes for a kiss!

I did not expect that in episode 3

Claire is stunned, but eager for another. It’s More Kiss, with pretty lighting and staaaaaaaaaring.

Poor Kae sees Claire’s name on Bell’s shoes.

But no time for that, Top is here. He wants to explain to Bell that none of this is his fault. Also, her dad is dead. Bell loses it and screams at Top to get out of her life, then sobs on the floor.

At the same time, Claire discovers Pa already asleep in their cell. Except, she’s not asleep. Poor Pa has passed.

Later, Porsche tells Claire that Pa looked happy before she died. He gives her the empty pill bottle he found where Pa was earlier. Claire goes nuclear, confronting Wichai because Pa should have been at a hospital. He grabs her by the face, and she grabs him by the collar, so she gets sent to solitary.

Porsche wants to know what she meant, and Wichai tells him to shut up and do his job.

Bell pays Wichai so she can attend her father’s funeral. She apologizes to her father’s memorial picture, promising she’ll keep proving herself and be a daughter he’d be proud of.

Porsche won’t let her friends give her some of her father’s stuff, though she only wants the book she used to read to him.

Then, Top shows up, trying to apologize and get another chance while her father’s ashes float into the sky behind them. Bell is Not Interested.

In the prison van, Porsche gives her the book.

Wichai tells Dao he lied about Pa’s cause of death and paid off the hospital

I want Dao to be a big hero and expose Wichai. She thinks Porsche needs to go. Wichai doesn’t explain why he won’t, and she guesses he’s connected to the director.

Poor crushing Kae gave Bell the money to attend her Dad’s funeral, and wants to do more for her. But Bell sees the 3D gang beating a girl with Kae nearby, and puts things together.

Kae admits to the loan business, but she’s in too deep to stop. Bell is concerned about the people being beaten up.

Kae desperately confesses to Bell. She had no one before Bell came, and now she has All The Feelings. But Bell does not have the same kind of feelings.

Kae knows that Bell is into Claire and walks away.

Claire gets out of solitary and prays for the first time, for Pa

Then, she finds Bell reading in the abandoned bathroom. They share mutual condolences.

Bell tells Claire she read this book to her father because it was long, and she hoped he’d make it to the end. He didn’t.

Bell asks Claire about her family, and Claire mentions a younger sister. They had nothing in common except their looks. Bell wants to see her, but she doesn’t visit. Claire says it’s because of how her family suffered, but Bell knows Claire must have forbidden them.

Claire killed the teacher because of what he did to her sister. Her sister wouldn’t have survived prison. The way she says it, Bell knows the sister killed the teacher, and Claire took the blame.

Claire wants a pinky promise that Bell will keep this a secret. She told Bell because she’s the first and only one that she trusts. Awwwww

More kissing! Oh, and then more than kissing.

Porsche isn’t happy that his Dad lied about Pa’s cause of death. Wichai doesn’t think anyone will care. Wichai is annoyed by his son’s morals. Porsche is disgusted by his father’s lack of them.

Top learns his visit to Bell’s father’s funeral made it onto social media. Uh-oh.

It’s Bell’s turn to enjoy PDA in the shower

And thanks to her partner, everyone clears out. Even Mangpor, shampoo still in her hair, apologizes about the setting-Bell-up-to-get-beaten thing before fleeing.

Two people come to visit Claire at the same time: the teacher’s sister and someone Claire refuses to see, I’m guessing her sister. The teacher’s sister notices her and follows her as she leaves. She doesn’t catch up, but gets the license for the scooter she’s on.

Dao visits Wichai, who whines about being tired until she puts music on and they date. They’re both really cute here if you ignore their characters

And Claire walks Bell to her cell and kisses her. Kae is lying in bed. Poor, poor Kae. Oh… she saw them in the abandoned bathroom.

That was the least intense episode ending so far

But is it too much to hope Kae won’t go after Claire and Bell? It feels like she’s in too deep with Deedee, and things are getting too easy on Claire and Bell.

I’m hoping we learn more about Kae’s past in the next episode.

Poor Bell and her habit of attracting people who think helping her means they’ve earned her love. This isn’t real love, but an attempt to own someone else by getting them in “debt” to you. Just because it worked for Johan…

On the other hand, I want to see how Bell would do if no one helped her. She’s poor. She’s not good at punching people. She has strong morals. Standing up for herself would probably only mean getting beaten and put in solitary, but I want to see her get through that on her own. Without a rich boyfriend, over-eager cellmate, or even a loving, tough new partner.

Now I feel mean.

Claire is so sweet and young-seeming when she lets herself be vulnerable with Bell. I hope she ends the show with a better opinion of herself. I’m guessing her sister will straighten things out at some point.
