The Boy Next World – Episode 5-6 – Recap and Review

When last we left our average student his parallel world lover, our parallel world lover’s mother was horrible and our average student got an average cold.

Cir has interesting ways of caring for the sick

A lot of cuddling. Phu no longer hides being sick, instead being whiney, needy, and chatty. Cir kisses him to make the words stop. Drama logic dictates that getting wet always leads to illness, but kissing sick people only does sometimes.

Cir climbs on sick Phu but restrains himself. Unfortunately, it’s too late, Phu has a boner. Cir takes care of it. Oral sex, the cold/flu cure!

Afterward, Cir wants Phu to tell him when sick in the future. Does he mean will…?

Phu shyly asks him to take care of him forever, then takes it back and asks for the night. Cir promises to stay by his side.

Cir and Phu cuddle, but we’ve got the parallel world filter on

Cir is confused because Phu isn’t sick. Phu sees that cut on Cir’s head from the shaman’s beating and knows this isn’t his Cir. Cir tries to calm Phu but his head throbs.

He’s in the padded white room, dressed in white, facing another him dressed in black. Black-clothes Cir asks what it’s like to see a different future because different paths lead to different futures. If white-clothes Cir wants a different future with Phu, stop being a coward.

Cir wakes up, upset by this repeated dream. He apologizes to sleeping Phu, he’s not from a parallel world. He wanted to believe he did those things so much he turned it into a dream that felt real.

He remembers 4 years ago, watching Phu in the hallway. Later, Phu’s classmates complain and gossip about Cir until Phu defends him. Cir asks Wim to become Phu’s friend. Then why was Wim so surprised Cir likes Phu?

The next morning, Cir is maybe going to tell Phu the truth, but Phu is too cute for the truth. In his bedroom, Phu reminds himself out loud that he’s the substitute. Cir hears. They both feel sad and guilty.

Back to the college BL portion of our show

Phu’s friends invite Cir to join them and everyone makes it as weird as possible. Jin listens to everyone’s thoughts as they worry about Phu. Except Phu, who worries about food.

Wim calls to check on Cir because of the whole thing with his mom. Jin wants to talk to Wim and Cir happily hands over the phone. Jin invites him to a movie but gets rejected.

When it’s just the two of them, Cir gives Phu his parent’s backstory. His mom is using him against her ex-husband for revenge. He grew up being forced to study and beaten when he skipped class. He adapted by shutting off his emotions rather than wanting what he couldn’t have. Phu has given him a reason to want to fight.

Phu feels terrible for Cir and takes him to have some fun. Nothing teaches sad rich guys to enjoy life better than UFO catchers. Cir says it’s the best day of his life.

We aren’t done learning about how horrible Cir’s mom is

She’s sent her secretary to bribe Phu to break up with Cir. Phu snaps back with something about heart disease patients. Less than 30 seconds later he runs into Cir’s younger brother, Zone.

Meanwhile, Cir is trapped in the nightmare that is conversation with Wim. Cir admits Phu is only his lover in his dreams. Wim is shocked that Phu believes Cir about parallel lovers. Yeah, because it’s a more interesting story than….

Cir is upset Phu is with Zone and that his mom tried to bribe Phu. Wim helpfully shares how Cir’s mom harassed their elementary school teacher until she died by suicide. She either was Cir’s dad’s lover or the mom thought she was, either way, it’s terrible.

She beat both sons in front of the father and forced him to choose one. Phu bluntly asks if their dad picked Zone. Ouch. Cir feels it’s better because he’s older, but Phu is upset for him. Wim tells Phu about Cir’s deal with his mother, freedom now in exchange for giving her his future.

Despite what he’s said about being with Phu and wanting to fight, he acts like he has no choice but to honor the deal.

But then they decide to start a fake relationship

What? But Phu is pissed about the bribery attempt and ready to take on Cir’s mom. So. Fake relationship. Later, Cir is worried. They’re walking away from a 7-11 and I wish we got more shots like this, out on the city instead of in schools and rooms.

Anyway, to protect Phu, Cir is staying at his place. Cir shows amazing restraint around the temptation that is Phu. Phu teases Cir until he sings him to sleep.

Wim makes sure the whole school knows Cir’s new relationship status. Phu’s friends openly make guesses about his virginity status. Phu is happy Wim found a reason for this fake relationship so… he didn’t need to agree to a real one?

Wim is terrified by a dark school hallway. Jin tries to blackmail him into seeing a movie with him. Wim refuses, but Jin still kindly walks him down the hallway.

Cir wonders what Phu thinks of liars

Just ‘cause you know. Phu is not pro-liar, but if someone he cared about lied to him, he’d want to know why. Cir is not moved to tell the truth.

He looks at graphs on his computer until Phu has a nightmare. Phu always dreams about his father around the anniversary of his death, wakes, and can’t stop crying.

Turns out nightmares are also cured by making out and blow jobs. Except this time Phu is the giver, Cir the receiver. Don’t worry, Cir is Well Built.

After, Cir feels like he took advantage of Phu but Phu is fine. He wants Cir to promise he won’t go anywhere but backtracks again. Cir still promises not to go anywhere.

Someone somewhere arrives in high heels to see her fiance.

It’s getting messsssssssy

It was too much to hope this would be a simple story of parallel worlds and escaping fate. Now we’ve got fake relationships and evil mothers and fiancés. Why do we need a fake relationship when Cir’s mom already thinks they’re in one? ’cause BL.

I haven’t given up on the parallel world being real. We do have a guy who reads minds. The dreams could be glimpses into the parallel world. Black clothes Cir is the parallel Cir, disappointed in this world’s Cir for being a coward. That’d work.

Who is Cir’s father? I think he’s going to have to help Cir and Phu out. They’ve built Mom up as too much of a monster to take on alone.

Phu has an interesting moral compass. He’s uncomfortable dating Cir because he sees him as belonging to the parallel world Phu. But he will exchange blow jobs and be in a fake relationship. But I think he’s let go of all that by the end of these episodes and wants Cir for himself.

Wim may be the most annoying character ever, but I find him and Jin cute. I want to see Wim do the “fall harder” thing, but I’ll settle for him quieting down.
