Pre-Recap Information:
This is another recap that’s just an excuse to rewatch a show I enjoyed.
You can read my initial review here, but the tl;dr version is this show is deeply flawed but I really liked it. It’s daring and strange and I like our couples together.
What is both a feature and a flaw with this show is how it’s trying to do three things at once:
- Be Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew/10 Things I Hate About You
- Be early Tarantino (Pulp Fiction Specifically)
- Be a fluffy BL
This is a truly ambitious undertaking. The main problem is that these things do not seamlessly fit together. The Fluffy BL part in particular often destroys the tension needed for the gritty-retro-crime-Tarantino part of the show.
I would put it in the same category as The Sign, Jack & Joker, and 4Minutes. They are all ambitious shows that can’t quite pull off what they promised but watching them try was worth it for me.
Unfortunately, unlike those shows, the fight scenes really suck. But it has an ending that fits the wild plot and is more satisfying than most dramas. This is worth a lot to me.
So join me on my recaps to discover why someone would like this mess (the clothes! the set decorating!), or enjoy the ride with me!
