Wandee Goodday- Episode 7-8 – Recap and Review

When last we left our doctor-boxer duo, our doctor finally figured out his feelings. But does this lead to action? No, that’s not Wandee’s style.

Yoyak and Wandee’s Reward System

Our adorable duo are in bed (sleeping!) when Yoyak has a pre-match nightmare. Wandee scratches his back and wants Yoyak to see a psychiatrist. When Yoyak hesitates, Wandee wants it as a reward if he does well on his presentation in Japan.

Yoyak wants a reward if he wins his match. We don’t hear the reward he requests, but we know.

The next morning Yoyak goes through Wandee’s stuff and finds a picture of Wandee and Dr Crush tucked in a book. After Yoyak leaves Wandee’s, we flash back to him turning the photo over and seeing a love note on it. At which point we flashback to how he found that book in the trash some other time. Why editor, why?

The point is, Wandee didn’t throw the picture away. This makes Yoyak so insecure he rips a poster about first kisses mysteriously hanging in the elevator.

Everything gets complicated

Kao loses his mind because Wandee hasn’t decided what to do about Yoyak. Meanwhile, at the gym, Yoyak hallucinates that his upcoming opponent is Dr Crush.

Yoyak goes to the hospital for Wandee but ends up with Dr Crush. Dr Crush knows Wandee better than anyone and he’ll show Yoyak!

At the gym, Yoyak asks Cher what it means when someone keeps a photo of a crush around. Cher wisely says it doesn’t necessarily mean the person still has feelings.

Still, it’s bothering Yoyak as he gives Wandee boxing lessons. Wandee talks about their roleplay plans and pretends like they might do something new. But nope, it’ll be tiger and bunny again. Yoyak’s mood improves when it sounds like Wandee doesn’t want to go to Japan. Better yet, he has a surprise for Yoyak at his condo!

Poor Wandee, drama surprises never go well

He’s got tiger ears on and dinner ready, but the person at the door is Dr Crush. Dr Crush brings him to his place, where there’s a similar dinner set up. Wandee passively sits down with him. After they eat, they work at the computer, which was probably the excuse to get Wandee there.

Dr Crush tries for a kiss and Wandee finally tries to leave. Then a series of ridiculous things happen that leave Dr Crush shirtless and wet. That’s when Yoyak and Kao arrive.

Dr Crush is horrible so Yoyak punches him. Wandee pushes him away and makes sure Dr Crush is okay. Yoyak gets his stuff from Wandee’s, hands back his key, takes back his necklace, and dumps Wandee.

Both guys are in tears. I understand why Yoyak’s upset, but it’s a bit much.

Wandee also thinks it’s a bit much

He still expects Yoyak to see him off when he leaves for Japan but Yoyak is a no-show. In Japan, a drunk Dr Crush confesses and tries for another kiss, but passes out. Wandee continues to be passive and quiet with him, unlike how he is with Yoyak.

Yoyak and Taem are hanging out and she notices he’s upset. He blames the upcoming match and she encourages him. They stare into each other’s eyes and I roll my eyes.

Wandee’s presentation goes great but Yoyak’s match doesn’t. He hallucinates Dr Crush and Wandee, doesn’t get a punch in, and is quickly defeated. Yei is furious and calls him an investment. Yoyak feels like he’s disappointed everyone and sucks.

Wandee finds a tearful, drinking Yoyak. Yoyak’s reward was going to be a kiss if he won, so Wandee gives him one as a consolation prize. Then he gives him another kiss that has nothing to do with the reward.

So they’ve worked it all out then!

Nope, nope, nope.

Wandee gets the necklace back and threatens to kill Yoyak if he takes it away again. He apologizes for what happened after the fight and explains that he was worried about Yoyak’s fight and Dr Crush’s ability to doctor. Yoyak apologizes for being hot headed and promises he won’t break up again.

Wandee won’t just let Yoyak kiss him freely though, and I have no idea what their relationship status is now.

Wandee and Yoyak go to the gym, where the brothers make up. Cher teases Wandee about the necklace. Wandee is worried about Yoyak, but he’ll still be able to compete.

Dr Crush invites Wandee to the hospital ball but while Wandee is doing his deer-in-the-headlights impression, Dr Crush’s crush invites him. I thought they were working together against Wandee? But maybe not? What is Dr Crush doing?

Yoyak reluctantly agrees to be Wandee’s date. He also reluctantly goes costume shopping. After trying out some fun, different things, Wandee settles on tiger and bunny. No, white suits. Wandee is vanilla, and that’s okay.

Then Wandee takes a reluctant Yoyak for dancing lessons with Grandma. While Yoyak practices, Grandma asks Wandee about their relationship. Thank you, Grandma. Neither Grandma nor I get it as Wandee says they are still fake boyfriends.

A real-life triumph appears in our drama

At the gym, Yei looks at a bank account in the negatives. In their room, Cher looks at better news – the marriage equality bill has passed. Cher is happy that they can one day get married. Yei proposes with an imaginary ring. This is the second imaginary ring in a Thai BL I’ve seen in a matter of weeks.

But will Prince Charming make it to the ball?

As Yoyak and Wandee get ready, Taem is with the school president. He gets scarily aggressive with her and she sends Yoyak a text for help.

Yoyak rushes off to rescue Taem with only a promise to be there later, so Wandee is by himself at the ball. Dr Crush offers to dance with him. Which is rude to his date for the night. He tries confessing and kissing Wandee again. Also rude to his date. Dr Crush is equal opportunity terrible.

Wandee finally gets his voice and says that Dr Crush is too vanilla, not as sarcasm but from his heart. Dr Crush grabs Wandee’s hand and refuses to give up. Wandee pushes his hands away and goes inside.

The dancing starts but Yoyak still isn’t there. Dr Crush is going to try AGAIN. Seriously? The man Will Not Give Up.

But Yoyak is there! Ready to dance! I never doubted him.

They dance and Wandee gets shy as Yoyak pulls him close. Then Yoyak whispers in his ear that he thinks he loves him. Yes!

I’m enjoying our lead characters and wish our secondary characters had characters

While Wandee’s tight lips around Dr Crush are frustrating, I like that it’s in keeping with his character. He was in love with the man for 8 years and never said anything. Yoyak is the person he’s most at ease around, and even with Yoyak he struggles to open up about his feelings.

Kao is right to be frustrated with him.

It makes sense that while Wandee realized his feelings earlier, Yoyak is the first to confess. Shyness and reserve are not a part of Yoyak’s character. I hope a flashback in the next episode shows us what led to Yoyak realizing his feelings. It has to have been in that short time he was away from Wandee.

Besides Yei and Cher, our secondary characters’ actions are at the whim of the plot. I have no idea why Dr Crush is now pursuing Wandee. My guess is he wants Wandee’s adoration back. Taem had no interest in Yoyak until it could get in the way of his relationship. Kao encourages Wandee toward Yoyak or Dr Crush based on whatever will cause the most conflict.

I’m disappointed we aren’t getting more of Kao’s relationship struggles. I wanted him to find love.

The writing could be better, Wandee and Yoyak could wear other animal costumes, but I’ll happily keep watching anyway.
