Your Sky – WDIW February 8th, 2025

Welcome to my Saturday blog post where I give thoughts on dramas I’m watching, whether at the beginning, middle, or end. Whatever I want, because I’m petty that way.

This week I recapped episodes 5-6 of Let Free the Curse of Taekwondo. Our characters reunite and one of them tries desperately to seem like he’s doing great. He’s not.

I also recapped episodes 9-10 of Love Is A Poison. Evil men with long hair attempt to ruin everything for our adorable odd couple. It’s an interesting take on long hair.

What did I watch this week? I finished up a show that mostly delivered on promised escapism:

Your Sky – กี่หมื่นฟ้า – 2024

Recently aired Thai college BL with 12 episodes.

A sunshine guy who struggles to say “no” enters into a fake relationship with a stone-faced guy who struggles to say anything.

Here’s a link to the trailer.

This show was nice college fluff with just enough conflict to make it meaningful and some unexpectedly spicy scenes. The bright tone and bright cinematography confused me about what it was trying to say sometimes, but I think it was trying to say something.

When everything is well-lit and everyone is smiling, it’s easy to miss things

I said a lot about the set-up and our leads in my initial review and my opinion about them being the most adorable hasn’t changed. But I have some final thoughts on the conflict in the show.

For a quick recap, our leads are the sweetest and enter a fake relationship to protect one of them from an aggressive classmate. I felt at the time that the classmate was being taken too lightly as someone who “wouldn’t take no for an answer” when that behavior is illegal.

And I still felt that way when his character’s arc was resolved and he seemed to get off easily.

A later obstacle in the show was one of our lead’s parents. Blinded by all the smiling, it felt out of place that these nice parents would have any issues with their son dating an accomplished rich male classmate. I even misunderstood one of the earlier scenes to mean the father was open-minded about new things. I was completely wrong, the scene showed he was clueless and out of touch.

It shows how fluff can be very surface-level. Sometimes a family looks happy and loving only because everyone behaves as expected. If suddenly one of the kids deviates from expectations, things change.

Looking back, I don’t think the show treated the criminal classmate lightly, I think I misinterpreted it like I did the scene with the father. It was really showing a darker reality about him.

But below the surface, most of this show is still mainly fluff

I’d say 85% fluff, 10% unpleasant-but-not-insurmountable reality, and 5% unexpectedly spicy scenes. The angst mainly shows how our leads stand by one another and are perfect for each other.

They go to the zoo, they cook together, they do a school project that is a BL together, they go to the beach. You know the drill.

It’s 100% about their chemistry. It’s a low-stress ride with just a few bumps as they get more comfortable together, face their feelings for each other, and support one another. There’s plenty of smiling, hugging, and head patting. Then, before the sugar becomes too much, someone takes off their shirt.

As a bonus, there are 2 adorable side couples. I would have liked to see more of them but I have a feeling we’ll get that in other shows.

I still wouldn’t recommend this show to anyone wanting something more dramatic, heart-wrenching, or that tackles bigger issues. It’s sweet, it’s cute, and if you need some positivity it’s here for you.

You almost convinced me to watch this but I think it’s still too fluffy for me. Still! Sounds kinda not bad! 😁

Yeah, if you need to get on a diet of fluffy College BL this is a good choice. But it’s still just a fluffy College BL. 😛
