When last we left our rabid dog and new arrival, they were living in their own little world.

And that’s where they stay for most of these last episodes
Meanwhile, Top has a friend over to show him CCTV footage of the friend moving drugs in Bell’s purse. The friend makes excuses, and Top beats the crap out of him.
Don’t cheer him on yet. Those were Top’s drugs. Top is making the friend take the fall to stay out of jail.
Also, Dao takes Deedee and Duen back like it’s nothing.
Dao hasn’t been feeling great, and I feel stupid once I put it together. Her and Kae’s pills were NOT switched by accident. Kae switched Dao’s birth control pills. Kae reveals this when Dao tries to get the 3D gang back and gives her a pregnancy test.
She gets a positive result.

Claire and Bell fold paper and pay off their debt
That… was very easy. Now they’re done with Kae!
Dao, Duen, and Deedee sharpen toothbrushes in front of Buddha for an attack on Kae. Deedee suddenly has scruples. Are they trying to kill her or just seriously hurt her? I’m not sure.
It doesn’t work anyway. Porsche finds the toothbrush shavings and grabs Deedee before she can attack. Duen and Dao, about to come out and join her, retreat instead.
Deedee gets thrown in solitary.
Wichai can’t get Deedee out because Porsche went straight to the director. Dao wants something done about Porsche, but Wichai finally explains that Porsche is his son.
Dao is horrified that Wichai’s son has been in his office/their sex room. Not only that, Wichai is still with his wife. She thought they had split. Dao thought this relationship was real.
Wichai knew it wasn’t and wants her to get an abortion. She says she won’t. He nearly strangles, then apologizes. Poor Dao.

Claire and Bell are in their own world, talking about roses and Pa
Top’s friend visits Bell to tell her he’s turning himself in, and those were Top’s drugs.
Bell is thrilled, but this brings reality into her relationship with Claire. They’re both happy Bell will leave. And they’re both sad because they’re going to part.
Rather than lying together, being sad, they decide to celebrate. Claire breaks them out and shows Bell how to kill the power. Are… those the Northern Lights? Guess not.
Deedee, in solitary, freaks out when the power goes out, and it gets darker. Porsche sits outside the door and talks with her to calm her down. Deedee tells him what’s wrong with him and flirts with him.
Claire and Bell stargaze. Once free, she’ll see the stars, but it won’t be the same experience without Claire. They’re trying to be happy in their fantasy world, but they keep getting sad.
The sprinklers go off, and Bell doesn’t want to go in because it’s their last night. I’m not sure how since she’s not going home tomorrow. But they have fun playing in the sprinklers.
Meanwhile, Cream gets home and discovers the parents have learned the truth. Cream cries and confesses she killed the teacher
Apparently, the phone Cream left in Teacher’s Sister’s car belonged to the teacher. Teacher’s Sister gets it unlocked.
Dao is preparing to abort her baby, and Kae is sobbing alone in her bunk.
And Claire is suddenly alone in the sprinklers.

Bell is still in prison, but they can’t stop talking about her leaving
Claire thinks this is a dream. Bell will be going back to the real world. The prison will be Claire’s world. Bell tells Claire this is the best dream she’s had, and Claire feels the same way.
Dao didn’t go through with the abortion and tells an infirmary nurse she’s pregnant.
Kae’s old partners in crime won’t give her any more money. She has nothing to pay the 3D gang, and they quit.
The 3D gang members return to Dao, Deedee, and Duen. Dao stops Deedee from beating them, so she bashes their heads together. Porsche watches and smiles.
Teacher’s Sister goes through her brother’s phone, smiling at the sweet pictures. Then she sees horrible ones. And that video. She cries at the truth about her brother.
Claire and Bell hang out in the library, talking about why Claire re-reads comics when she knows what’ll happen. Bell promises to bring her new ones, then cuddles Claire while she cries.
Kae tries to collect debts on her own and gets beaten. Mangpor tries to get her to stop her nonsense. Also, she has a delivery for Kae. It’s a shellfish soup base.

Teacher’s Sister returns the phone to Cream
Cream goes to the prison and tells Claire that she’s going to reveal the truth. Claire is against this until Cream says she can’t bear living with it.
Later, Bell and Claire see a news report about it.
Bell is excited Claire is getting out, too. Claire accepts it because she understands her sister hasn’t been happy. Bell reminds Claire she’s not alone anymore.
Neither of them is, literally, Kae is in the room. She tells Claire she can’t always protect Bell. When Bell asks why Kae is doing this, Kae says she loved Bell, and Bell betrayed her.
If Kae loved her, she’d want to see her happy. This isn’t love. This is selfishness. Mic drop, and Bell is out.

I forgot about Bell’s shellfish allergy, Kae didn’t
She uses that soup mix for the cafeteria lunch. Bell takes a sip and has a terrible allergic reaction. Porsche carries her away, Deedee at his side.
Claire stays back to confront Kae. Despite her sweet memories of Bell, Claire loses it and beats Kae until she’s a bloody mess. As she’s pulled off Kae, Claire apologizes to Bell.
With that, her sentence is extended by 3 years.
Next thing you know, Bell is at her home while Claire is in solitary. Porsche resigns, disgusted by his father. His father, who will no longer be working at the prison.
Bell doesn’t learn about Claire’s extended sentence until she visits. She immediately promises to wait for her and visit every day. Claire asks her not to. They’re in different worlds now. She doesn’t want Bell to waste her time anymore.
Bell asks if Claire doesn’t love her anymore. Claire leaves without answering, crying.
Before he leaves, Porsche tells Deedee she’s amazing. Is she though? They also hug.

Don’t worry, we’re not done with Top
Bell lets herself into Top’s place, where he’s wasted on the couch. He takes credit for getting her free, but she’s unimpressed since she knows the truth. He’s incapable of taking responsibility.
He nearly punches her, then apologizes and walks off to be sad about losing his father’s love.
Thanks to the friend, Bell finds Top’s huge hidden stash of drugs and pulls it out. Thanks to Claire, she uses the breaker to start a fire. The firemen come. So do the cops. And they find Top’s drugs and a stoned Top.
Now Bell is alone in her home with her memories of her father and Claire. Claire is in prison, telling herself the time they had was enough.

Three years later!
Deedee no longer beats people, is getting out soon, and will see Porsche.
Kae’s cellmate is abusing her.
Claire is leaving with the cat. As she leaves, she sees Dao playing with her young son.
Outside, Claire reunites with her family, who hug her.
And there’s Bell! They run towards each other like it’s a JBL, hugging and remembering their other times together.

I think this series was excellent, and everyone should watch it
But to me, this ending was fine. Some of it worked for me (Dao). Some didn’t (Deedee).
The biggest issue with the ending for me is Claire. Her story feels unfinished, wrapped up with the typical “trust-us-she-worked-out-her-issues-we-just-didn’t-show-you” time skip.
Claire saw herself as bad, only able to help her loved ones by doing bad things and staying out of their lives. Yes, I get why she beat the crap out of Kae. I even enjoyed seeing it.
Then she cut herself off from Bell. Like she did with her parents and her sister.
So, what happens now? Did she realize her worth as a human being, and they just didn’t show us? Or, if things get tough again, will she solve it by leaving?
I wish she’d asked Bell to bring those comics to her in prison, instead of telling her to stay away. That would have shown growth.
Maybe there’s a different way to read it. But that’s what I got. I’ll assume Claire has grown in those 3 years, for Bell’s sake.
Because Bell is AWESOME. I loved the ending to her character arc. She took care of Top without getting herself in trouble or doing anything besides exposing the truth about him. And a little arson. Anyway. A++ for Bell.
And as I said, Claire’s meh arc ending doesn’t retroactively ruin everything I enjoyed in these 8 episodes. This is a solid show I would recommend to anyone.
