Somehow, I missed this show when it originally aired, but I’m making up for it by having it be my first GL Recap and Review!
Two episodes in, and it’s very different from the small sampling of GL I’ve watched. It has a more intense plot, like Pluto or Harmony Secret, but tonally it’s more down-to-earth like Us, although much darker.
I’ve definitely never watched a GL, or a romance for that matter, that takes place in prison. I’ve also never watched any of those famous Western prison shows. Unfortunately, I will not be able to recognize tropes from that genre or throw in any references to Orange Is the New Black, Oz, or Prison Break. I’m so sorry.
So is it really a GL? Or is this a prison drama with strong GL elements? Or a half-and-half situation, like with BL and thriller in Goddess Bless You From Death?
I’m sure I’ll have an opinion by the time I’m finished watching.
Anyway, storywise, we’ve got Bell, a smart, well-intentioned, naive young woman. Because she trusts the wrong people, she ends up in jail for a thing she didn’t do.
While she’s there, she meets the most terrifying, violent, and mysterious prisoner, a young woman called Rabid Dog, but actually named Claire. In theory, Bell should stay far away from Claire.
But somehow she’s become the target of the second most violent, not at all mysterious, inmate. In these circumstances, it might be best to have a more violent friend around. And eventually, hopefully, kiss her.
Of course, if this is a GL, it will have a happy romantic ending. I’m curious how we’ll get from long prison sentences to there. Let’s find out!
