Jack & Joker – Episode 11-12 – Recap and Review – End

When last we left our thief and debt collector they were a family for ten minutes, then the entire neighborhood became under siege thanks to Evil Boss getting a ring.

Jack is terrible at seeing the big picture

At the hospital, Jack shoves Joker and does a kabadon-punch. He blames Joker for everything and storms off.

Nothing but fun in this episode, as Jack gets beaten by guards trying to reach Evil Boss at the same time as Joker sobs and Toi Ting clings to life. Jack fights until Evil Boss tells Jack since he’s not with him he’ll destroy him. Old Taekwondo Nemesis taunts him and knocks him out.

Back at the hospital, Tattoo sleeps with his head in Aran’s lap. They are adorable and we deserve more of them. Joker’s dad, a doctor of everything, announces Toi Ting is out of danger. Also, their joy is too loud. But he’ll cover her bills and let Joker hug him so fine.

Save and Hope bring Jack home so Jack can blame Save for everything. Hope is my hero for once, pointing out Jack’s hypocrisy since he also worked for Evil Boss.

Joker crashes at his parents but remembers Jack and is sad. Jack is also alone and sad but that’s his fault.

The team meets without Joker and struggles to team

Everyone mistrusts everyone else because of what they’ve done for Evil Boss. They learn the Four Horsemen are playing another stupid game and if Evil Boss wins things will get worse. Jack wants Save’s help so Save can fix his mistakes. Jack is the worst.

The rest of them want to steal the ring again. Each character has a plan. They are all stupid and don’t work. Rose demands her ring from Evil Boss, but that doesn’t work either.

Luckily Jack’s plan worked. He humiliated himself to Lompran to take his seat at the game and give it to Save. Save beats Evil Boss, thwarting his evil plan.

Joker is still a part of this show

He goes to see Grandma and get his stuff. She wants him to forgive himself for making too many mistakes. Ouch, Grandma. We get more Joker crying as he tells Grandma if Jack ever asks about him to tell him he’s thankful for the smiles.

Grandma hugs him and says he exchanged Jack’s freedom for never seeing him again. His exit is interrupted by Taekwondo Nemesis’s arrival. The fights in this show aren’t bad but our guys keep losing.

Joker is knocked out and wakes up in a metal collar and shackles. Rose and Save are there in the same condition. Their collars are bombs and Evil Boss wants to play a game.

Jack gets home and finds Grandma on the ground. She tells him to save Joker.

It’s another heist, kinda

Our guys are there to rescue Save and Joker (and Rose). There’s no real plan, they just split up. Jack fights his way inside, gives Joker a big hug, and tells him it’ll be okay. Finally!

Because Hope isn’t there Evil Boss is going to blow up Save. Luckily Hope is at a computer and fights off the Taekwondo Nemesis long enough to deactivate Save’s collar. But he has to run before he can free Joker and Rose.

Save escapes and Evil Boss doesn’t care. He’s too busy switching up the rules of the game. It’s a game of hangman, with Jack guessing Rose’s word and Evil Boss guessing Joker’s.

Hangman is not a thrilling game to watch

Jack gets stuck on Rose’s word, so it’s Evil Boss’s turn. It appears the word he picked, which he originally wrote for Jack, is “Sorry”. But Joker anticipated Evil Boss messing with the rules, and it’s not Sorry.

Jack wins by guessing Rose’s word, a good word, “Dickhead”. Joker’s word is “Zorry”, which he claims is a misspelling.

Evil Boss wants to blow everyone up, but Aran, Hope, Save, and Taekwondo Nemesis arrive. They fight over the controller. Joker and Jack are the cute couple I want them to be again, taking on Taekwondo Nemesis despite Joker being shackled, and defeating him.

But Evil Boss has the controller and is going to blow Joker up. Joker pushes Jack away but Jack hugs him. Joker wants to apologize and be forgiven again but Jack says being with him matters more than anything. They ignore Evil Boss’s threats and get in a good kiss.

Evil Boss hits the button and nothing happens. His sister’s voice comes out of nowhere to scold him for cheating, followed by the Four Horsemen. The ring has no power and they’ve been involved this entire time. This is all one big joke.

Evil Boss is stripped of everything. Rose is disgusted by her parents turning this into another game. Jack takes Joker’s hand and dramatic music swells.

3 Days Later

Everyone is recovering. Taekwondo Nemesis was handed to the police. Evil Boss tries to die by suicide but sees his dead wife who scolds him for dying.

The four horsemen have a new leader, Save. He gives an awkward speech at Jack and Joker’s school. Then Jack speaks, crediting Joker for inspiring him to dream big and keep going. I feel like I’m watching Wandee Goodday’s final episodes.

Joker’s family shows up late to praise him.

After, Jack and Joker are alone together. Jack isn’t interested in Joker’s list of ways to thank him, he just wants him to stay with him. Jack has the fake copy of his parent’s ring that Joker made, which he says is still real to him. He puts the real ring on Joker’s finger and Joker puts the fake “Joker” ring on his finger.

There’s flirting, ice cream, and kissing.

This should have been called Jack OR Joker

They spent so little time together in the last four episodes. The show tried to do so much that I think they forgot what most of the audience wanted: Jack AND Joker.

In the end, they barely worked together. They stole the necklace back and started Jack’s school, with Rose getting in the way almost immediately.

During this last arc, the conflicts feel written to give the actors big feels to portray. So much crying. But it felt like they hadn’t grown. Even in the penultimate episode, Jack blamed everyone except Evil Boss for Evil Boss’s actions while Joker thought he’d only make Jack happy by leaving. This is where they were in the early episodes.

Did nearly dying together in the final episode fix all that? Does their last conversation mean Jack will no longer ask Joker for promises? And Joker no longer feels his loved ones are better without him?

I’ll believe it does because this is a romance, but I wish I’d seen it on screen.

Plotwise, there was fun stuff here. I like that power is random and the ring didn’t mean anything. It was fun to see the whole team working together in the end. There was a good message about people making a difference while showing how hard it can be. I really liked Jack bringing out the fake ring and calling it the Joker ring.

Kudos to the show for having a message, trying to do something big and ambitious, and taking the audience on an adventure. I can’t say they didn’t try.
