Jin and Pod are looking awkward after their first kiss

Oops! Mysterious Sounds – Episode 3-4 – Recap and Review

When we last left our Science and Engineering students, they were fake dating.

Pod's brother Satang greets Jin and his engineering friends

Pod’s younger brother Satang suddenly pops into existence!

He’s a freshman at their school, lives with Pod, and LOVES talking about how cool Jin is.

Pod takes a call from Jin in his own room to avoid his brother. Jin doesn’t want to pretend anymore, but it’s unclear what he means. Pod is flustered.

Anda, still alive, gets the Rising Star Award. His fans have signs and screams to support him. Kum is waiting for him in the car with flowers. Things seem to be okay again. Maybe?

To celebrate his award, Anda and Kum go out with his friends. One needlessly brings up James. Then Anda starts talking about how his family doesn’t accept him. Now he’s down again, but also cuddling Kum and urging Jin to find a partner.

He wonders what he’d do if Kum and he broke up. Kum promises they never will.

Pod is talking on the phone with Jin

Jin calls Pod again, asking if it would be okay if he actually wanted to hit on him?

Yeah, it’s an awkward question. Pod freaks out, and Satang barges in because he is OBSESSED with Jin. He wants to know if they’re really dating, and Pod denies it. Jin can hear them on the phone and smiles.

Uh oh, Anda is sleeping in the car and wakes up breathing heavily. He’s brought his award to share with his parents, but his father is terrible. He puts Anda down and praises his older, cop brother.

Anda says his father only considers those useful to him part of the family. His father slaps him, and Anda leaves. On his way out, he runs into his older brother, but they don’t talk.

Later, he tells Kum that seeing his family was a mistake. Kum urges him not to focus on those who don’t love him. Yeah, but that’s extra hard when it’s family…

Anyway, he loves Anda the most. Anda feels like he’s the only one he has left. Uh-oh.

Dunk looks at Jin in the locker room while asking about Pod

Dunk wants to know if Jin is serious about Pod

He knows a lot of people like Jin, and he’s surprised he picked Pod. For a moment, he seemed like a good friend. Anyway, Jin is hard to read, always half serious, half joking. Dunk thinks Pod is dense and might not understand.

Jin takes that to mean he should throw soccer towels at Pod’s head. Really? But when Pod acts like Jin hitting on him is still an act, Jin wonders why he thinks it isn’t genuine. Poor Pod is confused.

So Jin makes it clear he’s going to hit on him, for real, no deals or ulterior motives. Is that okay?

We don’t get an answer, and unfortunately, it’s finally time for Anda to die. Both Pod and Jin watch the news speculate that Anda died by suicide in his own car.

Jin remembers trying to tell Anda things would be okay, and people love him.

Anda's mom is upset with his brother and dad at the funeral

But when Anda left, Jin heard a voice say, “Fated to die”

At Anda’s funeral, his Mom yells at his father for being horrible and his brother for not protecting him. The brother, Itti, introduces himself to Jin and apologizes for his Mom’s behavior. Yeah, moms should behave at their sons’ funerals.

Anyway, Itti’s also grateful to Jin for being there for his brother.

Jin asks Anda’s memorial photo, “What now?”, and then hears Anda whisper “Jin” in his ear.

Jin gives Pod a ride home, crying as he remembers Anda. He makes excuses about the wind, but Pod has him come up and wash his face. Jin admits he cries whenever he’s on the road.

Pod shares his own feelings for Anda as a fan, how it hurt when he died. He wants Jin to know it’s okay to let his feelings out, and not worry about other people. Everyone understands.

Jin looks about ready to kiss Pod

Jin wants a hug, it’s sweet, and… I guess they feel like kissing now?

And here’s Satang. He exists only to interrupt Pod and Jin.

At school, Jin and the other engineering friends agree that they don’t think Anda died by suicide. Meanwhile, Pod spends too much time reading internet comments. Dunk urges him to stop and is a little too touchy as he comforts him.

Itti is also working on his brother’s death. There’s no CCTV footage of where it happened. His brother was known to fall asleep in the car. And he seems to have died by suffocation. But his laptop and phone are missing.

Itti doesn’t think this is suicide either.

Pod runs into Amp right outside her place. She feels SO strongly that Anda was murdered that she physically shakes Pod, saying they need to help him. Then she disappears back into her own apartment.

Pod tells Jin about her, and he thinks she could be a grieving fan. But they both think Anda was murdered.

Jin, Pod and the others talk to Itti about Kum

Pod agrees to work with Jin to find Anda’s killer

Dunk gives Pod a new set of headphones. He lost the ones Pod actually lent him. These Will be Important.

Messages supposedly between Kum and Anda are leaked online. They show Kum wanted to break up with Anda the morning he died.

The cops interview Kum. He last saw Anda the morning he died, and was at a friend’s house the rest of the day. He doesn’t have Anda’s laptop or phone. Nor will he reveal the name of the friend he was visiting.

Jin, Pod, and those other two decide they’ll interview Kum at the police station too! But they run into Itti first. They tell him Kum isn’t the murderer. Itti tells them Kum is acting shady. I don’t think he should share that.

Itti suggests they let the police handle this and go home. THAT makes sense.

One of the engineering students randomly recorded their conversation as “evidence”. But when he tries to listen back with Pod’s new headphones, they don’t work.

At the condo he shared with Anda, Kum gets all tearful over a photo of the two of them. Then he apologizes, but what for?

Jin helps Pod put his helmet on

Jin is giving Pod rides all the time, and they are the cutest

At Pod’s place, Jin asks if he can kiss him. After the go-ahead, they share a sweet-spicy-awkward first kiss. After, Jin leaves right away because… Anyway, both of them are smiling and cute and happy.

Alone, Pod gives his maybe-broken headphones a try. But when he puts them in, he hears someone saying “help” over and over, and then “help me.”

He finds Jin in the library and gives him the headphones to try. He doesn’t expect him to believe him. But Jin also hears the voice, and it even says “Jin.”

a young Jin hears strange noises

Jin asks Pod if he’ll believe that he’s ALWAYS heard these voices

Woah. Flashback to little Jin hearing voices as he sweeps a temple. One of them says, “Your time is up,” and soon after he sees a woman die in a car accident.

That’s why he knows that Pod isn’t lying about hearing those voices. The voice he’s hearing is Anda’s, and Jin has been hearing it for a while. Anda is lingering around and needs their help.

Anda stands in the library, watching them.

At the funeral, they pray before Anda’s picture, and Pod silently asks if there is anything he can do to help him, to let him know, and let him help him.

Anda’s Mom is upset again, this time because Itti won’t let her delay Anda’s cremation. She calls Itti a terrible brother again, and he’s done with her.

Satang calls his brother AT A FUNERAL about a plumbing problem. Pod switches to the headphones, and again hears that voice asking for help. It seems to be Anda, sitting in front of his memorial photo, crying.

Then acting ship partner James goes after Kum, accusing him of killing Anda. Itti and others are eventually able to break them up, and James leaves.

James looks angrily at Kum during Anda's funeral

I need Pod to ask Jin more about these voices

The different parts of this story are intriguing, but sometimes clunky. I’m not sure we needed to see Jin try 3 times to make it clear to Pod he was hitting on him for real. Or so many scenes of Anda being upset.

And I think it would have helped some of the slower pacing at the beginning if we’d been given hints about Jin’s abilities earlier.

But now I want to know more about Jin. He works a lot, so poor? Maybe a temple boy, so maybe an orphan? I need more.

I haven’t always loved Pod’s treatment of Jin, but it is nice to see him enjoying getting pursued.

As for the murderer? No idea. Right now, Kum looks MAYBE guilty of cheating. I wonder if he’ll disappoint Jin and the others who are so eager to stand up for him. But we’ve never seen him be violent, unlike James and Anda’s Dad.

We need those mysterious sounds to start giving us more clues!
