Jin gives Pod a back hug as an apology

Oops! Mysterious Sounds – Episode 5-6 – Recap and Review

When we last left our Science and Engineering students, they were going to solve the mystery of Anda’s death!

Pod gives Risa a long skirt after somehow ripping her short one

Sorta, when they have time

More importantly, Pod somehow rips Risa’s skirt. So he gets her a replacement skirt. So she accompanies him to the soccer club and vows to also pursue Jin. Will she be the murderer? Why is this happening?

From there, we get whiplash from going BACK to Kum and James’ fight at the funeral. After James leaves, Itti also wants Kum to leave, but Jin and the others are upset because he’s Anda’s boyfriend. Anda would want him there.

They take Kum out to eat, and since he’s looking down, Jin tells him he needs to prove his innocence. And Pod wants to know if Anda died because Kum broke up with him. This is A Lot.

Kum admits those texts are real, but Anda’s horrible homophobic father bullied him into sending them. He used every guilt-inducing argument he could, acting like he truly cared about the son he slapped.

I guess Kum didn’t want to tell Itti he was with Anda’s father? And he wasn’t cheating?

He’s so overwhelmed Anda is gone that he can’t even think about who might have done it. But he promises to help if he can.

Jin in a pool because he teaches swimming

Turns out Jin is a private swim instructor at the local pool

What about hearing voices? Can we talk about that?

At least they talk about the headphones, but Pod says he listened to them again and heard nothing. That’s exciting.

It occurs to them to figure out where these headphones came from. Dunk got them from some local TikTok-type sellers, who also have a jacket Jin recognizes as belonging to Anda.

The ENTIRE GROUP tracks them down, and it turns out one of the sellers’ fathers STOLE IT FROM ANDA’S CAR WHILE HE LAY DEAD. He’s a security guard at that parking lot, and noticed Anda’s car sitting there for a long time. He opened the door, saw Anda “sleeping”, and stole his stuff. That’s creepy and terrible.

As for the phone and laptop, he sold them! To whoever! He doesn’t know.

Pod and Jin give each other a look over what they've learned about Anda's belongings

But we see them, with someone’s hand, on a table, somewhere

And this creep TOTALLY knows who he sold them to, but doesn’t want to say.

Jin and Pod go to dinner, not sure what to do next. A young kid shows up at their table selling cupcakes to support his family. Jin buys all the cupcakes and makes the kid join them for dinner, buying extra food for him to take home.

Afterward, Pod asks Jin why he did so much, and Jin says he used to have nothing. The kid reminds him of myself.

Pod offers to reward Jin for his kindness. With something money can’t buy. Oh my.

It starts pouring, and they take cover at a bus stop. Pod can never take off his helmet without Jin’s help. It’s Adorable. They flirt, and Pod randomly talks about bus lines, but he’s really giving Jin his number. Now he can call him instead of using an app. Kids these days.

And THEN Jin gets his kisses! Lots of them!

Jin is stuck listening to Risa and Pod is jealous

But don’t forget the exciting Risa jealousy plotline!

Pod agrees to compete for Jin. Why? So Risa sits and flirts with a very uninterested Jin. He only escapes with Dunk’s help.

This puts Pod in a mood, and despite recent Hot Kisses, he declares it’s all pretend again. Jin doesn’t roll his eyes, but bluntly tells Pod he likes him and he’s a dork. Fair.

Pod is VERY distracted during exams.

Meanwhile, Jin has the other engineering students searching thrift stores and similar places for the laptop and phone, but they’ve had no luck. He goes to pick up Pod from his faculty and sees Dunk teasing and touching him. Upset, he turns around and leaves.

Pod chases after him, offering to apologize if Jin tells him what it’s about. Jin asks if he’s still crushing on Dunk, and Pod firmly denies it. Also, never mind that apology, he’s annoyed. So Jin is back to chasing him.

Back hug! Jin says now that they’re together, no touchy-feely with Dunk. Pod gets shy since they’re at school, but Jin won’t let him go. He makes it clear he got jealous because he’s crazy about him.

Jin doesn’t let Pod break free until he agrees to take them more seriously.

Jin introduces Pod to his auntie friend

Then Jin takes Pod to meet an Auntie of his

Pod makes the mistake of asking about some family pictures, and learns that her son and his family died in an accident. She knows about Jin’s sixth sense because he tried to save her son, but got hurt and had to stop doing sports for a year.

Now he and his friends visit her and have dinner, which helps her keep going after such a horrible tragedy.

Later, Jin tells Pod he feels guilty he couldn’t save her son. Pod thinks he carries everyone on his back, and puts himself last. He lets Jin know he can be weak sometimes.

Jin takes that as an invitation to rest his head in Pod’s lap. For those who matter, like Pod, Jin can do anything. Pod appreciates this, but asks him not to overexert himself.

Which brings them back to Anda. Pod wishes those earbuds were more helpful. Yeah, me too.

After all that, they still aren’t sure where they originally came from. They track the security guard down and confirm they were also Anda’s.

They go to the parking lot where Anda died, and Jin asks a vision of him, dead in his car, who did this to him.

Amp stands in the doorway with bruises on her face

At Pod’s place, they see Amp get out of a car with bruises on her face

The driver gets out and gets irritated with her for struggling with the trunk. It’s James!

Pod doesn’t want to be nosy, but Jin thinks it’s better to check on her. Amp looks like she’s been in a fight, but says she’s fine. Jin gets pushy, asking if she’s with someone, and offering her Pod’s help if she needs anyone.

She closes the door on them.

Jin invites himself over to Pod’s so they can make out LITERALLY behind Satang’s back.

Jin puts a neck pillow on Pod so he can sleep more comfortably in the car

What better way to get over a friend’s death than vacation?

Look, IRL you take care of yourself however you need to, but this is fiction. What are we doing?

Jin wants his friends and Anda’s friends to be one big happy family, so it’s the whole gang. Everyone teases Jin for how attentive and sweet he is with Pod. They’re all jealous.

Where Jin and Pod are going to sleep Becomes A Thing. Both of them insist on taking the couch so the other gets the bed.

But whatever, time to enjoy the beach! Jin becomes sad because Anda used to come with them on these trips. I guess Kum came once too? So they met him more than once? That makes a little more sense.

Jin admits to Pod that he feels lost and out of control. Pod takes his hand and promises to be there with him. Then it’s time to frolic in the water.

One of the other engineering students gets drunk and talks about missing Anda. He thinks Anda’s car could have been remote-controlled. So… He was dead, and they drove the car remotely into the garage? I guess?

In the room, Pod is shy and fussy around post-shower Jin. But he dries Jin’s hair and asks him about himself to get to know him better.

As they try to sleep, Pod tosses and turns. This leads to Jin getting on the bed, staaaaaaaaaaaaring, and kissing! Oh hey, Jin brought a condom. Good boy. Sex time!

Jin looks down at Pod intensely

I think they should have given this show a different name

I wouldn’t keep expecting mysterious sounds if it weren’t in the title. We’re past the halfway mark, and all it’s amounted to is Pod hearing Anda calling for help that one time.

We did make SOME progress in episode 5 towards figuring out what happened to Anda, but episode 6 felt like it stalled. They just keep talking about finding the laptop and phone. Which, yeah, is important.

The remote-controlled car thing seemed interesting, but I don’t see Anda’s horrible, abusive father or horrible, abusive ship partner James doing them. So, it’s either a red herring or it’s not them.

I still don’t trust Kum as much as Jin and his friends do.

The romance, outside of Risa, is the best part of the show, so I’m happy with that. Pod is such a prickly, fussy creature. I relate.

I’m still curious about Jin. Being able to hear these warning voices but not do anything about them has done a number on him. Is that part of what attracts him to Pod? Yeah, Pod needs help with his helmet, but his sassiness makes him seem tough in his own way. Especially right now, Jin could use that.

As long as they keep kissing, I’ll let go of the mysterious sounds. Maybe.
