We’ve got four couples, which means eight names to remember. Good luck.
The first person we meet isn’t even in one of the couples
But Linda tells us about the crows, her top-notch team who can handle any problem. From rescuing someone from a beating to pretending to be someone’s son.
It’s Halloween at the club, and Talay brings Sun his order before he orders it. For a week, Sun has been coming daily with his portable typewriter, working on a romance novel. But he hasn’t written a word.
Next, Ranne arrives with his failing boy band. Ranne wants to keep trying. The others think maybe it’s time to quit. Then, Ranne falls in love with a druid playing guitar and singing with his back to the audience. That’s Phatee.
Then, a brawl starts when a customer tries to record under a waitress’s skirt.
Watching Talay fight inspires Sun
He starts typing. Meanwhile, Ranne somehow ends up in Phatee’s arms, and there’s STAAAAAAAAAAAAAARING.
But all good brawls must come to an end. Time for the next couple!
Vann, in a mask and cat ears, gets slapped on the job. Next he’s in an elevator with one other person, who is talking on his phone about getting the right-sized condoms. The elevator breaks down, and condom guy, Rakkhun, has a panic attack. Vann tries mouth-to-mouth to chill him out. I guess it’s a cure-all.
It sorta works. The guy is startled into slapping Vann’s cat ears off. Then the elevator door opens.
Rakkhun makes it to his place where the condom receiver awaits. As they get intimate, Rakkhun hesitates because this is his first time. They try again, but this time a ghost appears. Rakkhun’s partner RUNS.
Meanwhile, Tangmo and the Delivery Guy Have A Past
Tangmo hates Yoyeh. Yoyeh doesn’t care. That’s them for now.
Sun arrives, but he’s back to not typing. Also, if he doesn’t turn the book in asap, his contract is in danger of being terminated.
He asks Talay about the whole “hiring them to do anything” situation. He’d like to hire Talay to be his pretend lover, since he’s perfect for his novel. But Talay doesn’t believe in love or destiny, so he doesn’t feel right for the job.
Ranne asks Phatee to join his band, and Phatee tries to escape him. Ranne suggests they be friends first and introduces himself. Something about his name catches Phatee’s attention.
Now it’s time for the Crows to refuse the call/job offers!
The first pair to meet is Rakkhun and Vann, though Rakkhun doesn’t recognize Vann without the mask or cat ears. Vann remembers Rakkhun and sees him as part of a Bad Day. He doesn’t want the job.
But Rakkhun can pay enough for Vann to go to Japan for the Engineering degree he’s been saving towards. All he needs to do is negotiate with a ghost.
Phatee doesn’t want to work with Ranne, even when Linda reminds him that this is his dream. Ranne begs him to audition with them. If it goes anywhere, they can figure it out.
Tangmo does NOT want to work with Yoyeh in some competition I’ll understand later. Yoyeh says he has brains and Tangmo has strength. He knows they could both use the prize money.
Tangmo should just treat Yoyeh like any customer, unless he can’t move on?
Talay doesn’t want Sun to bet his novel on him, but Sun trusts his instincts. To prove whether they have chemistry, Sun gives Talay a quick kiss. Talay then gives him a much longer, more intense one.
Afterward, he claims they have no chemistry. Sure.
Linda reminds them it’s their choice, but they’ll get fired if they get involved. Sorry, Linda, this is a Bl so… (also, I think she knows.)
Anyway. Vann accepts Rakkhun’s offer. Ranne’s job for Phatee is pending. And Sun is rejected!
Tangmo tells the other crows he HAS to take his job, so Yoyeh won’t think he hasn’t moved on.
But anyway, Vann starts his job first!
Rakkhun shows Vann his bank account to prove he has All The Money. I’m guessing it’s family money, or there’s a bigger story, because Rakkhun is a Baby.
Vann has done the fake boyfriend job before. He’ll do it again, get the ghost to appear, and tell it to go away. Simple. He also has a funky device to measure Rakkhun’s heartbeat, which is somehow tied to the ghost appearing? I guess?
Rakkhun explains that the ghost has haunted and scared away all of his previous boyfriends. He tried the usual monks-and-merits cure, but it didn’t work.
Vann hugs Rakkhun, and the ghost is not immediately summoned
Although the hug does increase Rakkhun’s heartbeat, which… Vann doesn’t like? Next, he has Rakkhun give him cheek kisses. Still no ghost. So, Vann is moving in!
But he doesn’t want Rakkhun snuggling him at night. Dude, you want to be haunted or not? Rakkhun still wants to cuddle, but Vann can’t sleep if someone is touching him.
The next morning, Rakkhun drags Vann out to fake couple. Wiping sweat, sharing a straw, and taking a picture together do not summon the ghost. Frustrated, Rakkhun asks Vann if he’s been in love, because he’s not a convincing lover.
Vann reveals he saw Rakkhun in the elevator, and snarks that Rakkhun’s boyfriends keep abandoning him to danger. Now Rakkhun wants Vann to go away too, and that’s easier than the ghost.
Vann recognizes he’s in the wrong, but doesn’t know what to do
The club waitresses suggest Rakkhun doesn’t actually want to be alone. But Vann doesn’t need to make the first move, because Rakkhun calls him. He admits his past relationships weren’t always love, but he did want good relationships.
Vann apologizes for judging him and wants to make up with a pinky promise. And he’s going to try harder by taking Rakkhun on a date.
Which is an ice bath followed by indoor rock climbing. Somehow this works, and Rakkhun gives Vann THE BIGGEST HUG, his heart racing, because he’s having so much fun.
Next, Vann takes Rakkhun to enjoy his hometown food and insists on paying, since this is a REAL date.
Later, they look at bracelets. One reminds Rakkhun of his most recent ex, Kan. Vann thinks Kan was a coward, but Rakkhun wants to get back together with him if he can.
Vann secretly gets Rakkhun the bracelet he admired and gives it to him. He promises he’ll never run away, and if Rakkhun is sad, he should look at the bracelet and just think of him.
Now they’re flirting via text and video chat. It doesn’t feel fake. Though Vann tells the Crows it’s all about the money.
At school, Kan apologizes to Rakkhun because he doesn’t want to break up
Rakkhun hesitates, but when Vann arrives, Rakkhun says he’s his brother. Kan probably notices the way Vann closes the car door for Rakkhun isn’t brotherly.
Vann is supposed to help Rakkhun make an architectural model for class, but first he hand-feeds him. Rakkhun brings up Kan wanting to get back together, asking Vann what he should do. Vann says they need to work on the problem so the ghost leaves, and Rakkhun can get back together with Kan.
As promised, Vann helps Rakkhun with his model until Rakkhun dozes on his shoulder. Vann offers to finish the model and help with others in the future. Rakkhun thanks him, and Vann sorta strokes his hair and is maybe going for a kiss when…
Ghost! A knife flies through the air into the model. The lights go off. She’s running around them.
Vann tells Rakkhun not to be scared. He tries to shine a flashlight on the ghost, but she’s behind them. Vann says it’s nice to meet her!
I wonder how the couples will be divided across the weeks
I like the set-up for this first couple. I like ghosts. But the acting is distractingly wooden. And I wasn’t super impressed with Vann initially putting so little effort into a job that could get him All The Money.
But once they started connecting better, they were cute.
As far as the story goes, is the ghost actually protecting Rakkhun from his lame taste in boyfriends? Poor Rakkhun. The way Rakkhun was ready to cuddle Vann the minute they were in the same bed, he must be Very Lonely.
Where are his parents? They aren’t in that big expensive place he lives in. Dead? Busy making money?
In that one scene, Kan seemed okay, but I won’t be surprised if he’s a creep. We’ll see.
Vann is only helping him for the money, so it’s not like he’s prime boyfriend material.
But I’m hoping to see more of the other couples next week.
Besides that, I am enjoying the campy look and tone of the story. From the perpetually nearly empty Crow Club and its gothy workers to Sun’s pretentious typewriter and Linda’s amazing looks. It’s a bit much, more than a little silly, but that suits my tastes fine.
